@IntApp2022 in 2017 it came out on a Friday and 2016 on a Wednesday of the same week. They’ll probably announce the week before they release decisions.
@MaybeHarvard2022 Okay thanks! I hope they don’t extend it to the end of March. I’m too curious
I requested an interview in January but the alumni didn’t contact me until last week. I’m having my interview today but I’m worried the deadline already passed. Does anyone know the deadline that alumni have to submit their report is?
@ttg1125 The same thing happened to me. The woman contacted me last weekend for a interview that same weekend and I was terrified that it was too late for me. But if someone contacted you to have an interview, I doubt that the deadline has passed.
I was scrolling through the UChicago 2021 applicants thread and it seems like almost everyone was waitlisted! With a high percentage of the class accepted EA/ED1/ED2 this year as well, I expect the university to do the same thing. I am crossing my fingers for @MaybeHarvard2022 's assessment that they will release decisions on Friday, March 16th.
Same @Benji3025. I don’t have much hope of acceptance, but I’d still just like to know.
Quick question, I heard from a college admissions expert (my counselor) that in big schools like Uchicago and Harvard, international students from countries with low numbers of admitted students have a higher chance of getting accepted even if their scores are not prefect or so. My friend applied to Harvard with an SAT of 1210 and two 680 SAT II, and she got accepted, her extracurriculars are not that special or something. Me and her are both from Palestine btw (small country with great minds). My SAT is in the 1300 range and my extracurriculars are great. Do you guys think i might have a good chance because I’m an international from such country as Palestine?
@MaybeHarvard2022 we meet again i see
@Harvard2022maybe That would make sense. Id assume they’d want to say they have students from regions like Palestine and parts of Africa to boost their international reach. Id also go as far to say that expectations for students from those type of regions aren’t as rigorous as those for applicants from Europe, India, China, and the like. And yes we do haha
@Harvard2022maybe I think your friend’s experience is an extension of the idea that they are looking for more ‘unique’ and ‘powerful’ narratives from international students in developing countries. Like, if a student who has an 1170, but markets themselves as an anti-war activist who lost their parents in a major war, they probably will still have a major shot at an acceptance. Like, why would an admissions officer want to reject someone who’s probably going to make a major positive contribution to the world over an average SAT score? Plus, your friend’s 680s aren’t bad!
Also, a separate question: I’ve noticed on Reddit and the UChicago Results thread that UChicago has been readily accepting international students on full aid for the first time (anecdotal evidence suggests they’ve been extremely skimpy on aid for internationals in the past few years). Has there been some change? Did they get a larger endowment or something? Or did I just look at some outlier cases? I would love to know!
@afterthought well i know my friend very well, she does have anti-war thoughts and she’s very amazing and i don’t see why she wouldn’t be accepted. But it’s about the same with me, and i tried to clear that out in my essays. I also wrote an essay about my experience throughout my research on a cancer cure. Sorry if I’m sounding braggy. Do you think universities like Uchicago will be interested in a person with thoughts and ideas on cancer, possibly a cure?
@MaybeHarvard2022 i don’t wanna go all political and braggy but believe me when i tell you Palestinians are very impressive and smart, lol
@Harvard2022maybe No, don’t worry, I don’t think you are!
The cancer cure sounds godlike, obviously, in what it can do for humanity. That’s like the hyperbolic refrain ‘I didn’t cure cancer like every other applicant!’ coming true lol.
In all seriousness, though, I think they aren’t expecting enormous contributions at such a young age from you, but if you’re showing passion and intellectual curiosity in what you’re doing and somehow personalizing it, I feel like it’s going to be an enormous plus!
UChicago would rather you attend there BEFORE you cure cancer. That way they can brag about you.
We need another Nobel Laureate in area other than economics
I know this probably doesn’t mean anything but did any international students get the email confirming about not applying for financial aid today?
UChicago’s website says RD will come out late March which isn’t consistent with past years.
The portal says mid-March though
When are we expecting the decisions as the portal says mid march. I’m guessing March 15th as ED1 was stated mid December they got it on 15th and ED2 was stated mid feb and they got it on 15th too. So hopefully we should get it by next thursday, 15th right?
I don’t think that changes anything. If you look at previous years (via an archived webpage site), it said “Late March” if you look at the applicant page for early March 2016/2017, and both years came out mid-March. @MaybeHarvard2022
