UChicago Class of 2022 Discussion

@wharton2022 we’re you ED or RD?

So, I got accepted EDII! However, I paid my deposit just today. How likely am I to get into BJ or Snitchcock if those are my first two choices, respectively? Also, what should my third choice be if I’m looking for a comparable culture in another dorm? Anyways, super excited.

You’ve got a good shot to get into one of those two, North seemed to be the most popular these days.

@IntWiz-my D17 got in EDII last year and paid her deposit around the same time you just did. She got a single in BJ. Her first choice was a single in Snitch but that’s the smallest dorm so must have filled already. North was her third choice just because it sounded like a cool place. She loves her house in BJ and is planning on returning next year.

I guess I’m just worried that the 2 or 3 day delay would make a major difference since a lot of EDII people probably deposited during that time. I honestly don’t think I would like living in one of the large dorms that much.

The third choice could be I House as they are all singles and its a small house. It also stays open during the breaks in case you want to stay. Its not much further than BJ from the main quad.

A lot of kids will opt for the newer, larger dorms - South, North, Max P - just due to things like wanting central heating/cooling and being nearer to the quads or the Reg. or Ratner. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. If you want to brute-force your preferences to guarantee a smaller dorm, then definitely take @CU123’s advice and select I-House as your third choice - also, rank “single room” high on your preference list (if you want a single) since all three of those older res. halls are known for having singles and it will be another avenue to getting one of your choices. I-House is farther away from the dining halls than the other two but it’s amazing what can be done for meals just by having a microfridge and kuerig in your room

Does anyone have an idea what the RD acceptance rate will be at UChicago this year? Perhaps somewhere from 1 to 2%? It seems like UChicago doesn’t like the idea of losing kids to HYPSM and is trying (again) to pump up its yield by admitting a very large percent of its class EDI/EDII. Can this be confirmed?

They probably admit 50% of the class ED, similar to Penn. All the other Ivies that use ED fill at least 40% of the class via ED. No it cannot be confirmed only guessed at.

Just speculation but given that they have both binding and non for both early and regular, the exact percentage might vary by the specific pools each year. If the ED pool(s) are sufficiently strong (whatever that means to the adcom) then they’ll fill 'er up and you’ll probably see well over 50% of the admitted class via binding. This seemed to be what happened last year, although no one knows for sure because they were very mum about the EDII numbers. Whether the same is repeated might depend on how ED vs. EA looked this year. But Nondorf’s little dittly about the RD pool - though corny - probably contains a large kernal of truth. Why would he say it otherwise?

How hard is it to get into RGG? That’s south campus right? Private bathroom is important to me.

So my main thing is that I need a single room and second most important is private bathroom (or single user). So my first choice is RGG, second is North, 3rd is… I’m not sure. I’m not at all interested in ending up in Snell. Is it super hard for EA students to get these dorms?

Your position on the list for housing preference is determined by when the deposit is received. So if someone puts down there deposit right after their acceptance then the order would look like this.

  1. Those accepted last year and are taking a gap year (Forced (accepted a gap year off waitlist) or by choice) Previous year
  2. EA/ED1 December 3 ED2 February 4 RD March

If an EA waited until April then of course they would be with most of the RD acceptances.

@k41500 relatively good chances, but average nonetheless (same for the vast majority of applicants).

Does anyone know when UChicago RD results come out?

@IntApp2022 My guess is Friday March 16th

Based on past years? @MaybeHarvard2022 Also, do you know when they’ll announce the date?
