I have drafts for my essays but I might redo the “unusual” one
scared scared scared did u guys submit ur EA applications or not yet?
Has anyone applied yet??? I haven’t, but I’m wondering if anyone already has
Not me. Still working on my essays
Nope, my essays are like -10% done atm
yeah same, I still have to finish my extended essay
Just turned my application in yesterday. I’m taking SAT II’s on the 4th, and still have a couple of rec letters in the queue, but otherwise, this is it. Aren’t you guys excited?!
Is ED binding?
Yes. That’s what “ED” (as opposed to EA) means. You can only apply to one college at a time ED, and if it accepts you, you are committed to go there.
There is one exception to “binding” and “committed”: You should get a financial aid offer along with the acceptance. If the financial aid offer doesn’t work for your family, you can turn down the ED acceptance. You are usually given a couple weeks to make your decision on that, and there is often some back and forth with the financial aid office to see if they can adjust their determination. If you turn down an ED acceptance, however, that’s it for that particular college. You can’t apply to the same college RD, or wait to see what other colleges offer you. You have to make a yes or no decision in a short time-frame.
I have pretty awful SAT II scores (680 on lit and 700 on math level 2) due to lack of preparation, but I got a 1550 on the SAT (750 RW 800 M). Do you suggest retaking the subject tests in December to send in case of a deferral? Or would my SAT score make up for it? I know at UChicago they’re optional so I’m not sending them with my ED application, but since it’s so competitive I need to consider the chance that I get deferred to RD.
Just speculation here but since your SAT I Math score is perfect then not sure how SAT II Math is going to help in a deferral as much as a well thought out e-mail to your regional counselor explaining why UChicago is still your #1. They usually request that you don’t send anything else in.
Guys do you think EA increases your chances or is it basically the same as RD?
I should have posted this earlier for those interested. It was originally posted last year.
In case anyone was interested in the admissions ratings process, there are three main rating variables.
1-5 : Academics
A-E : Personality - Extra Curricular, Essay responses, etc.
XYZ : UChicago fit - engagement
Highest rating is 1AX
Lowest rating is 5EZ
At this stage, the only variable a student could impact would be engagement and essays.
Good luck everyone.
Does anyone kind of know what the ED II acceptance rate looks like?
@piday314 - no, and it might be different from last year anyway.
@fbsdreams where did you find this from and is this actually used in the UChicago admissions process? How do you show “engagement” for a school that doesn’t track demonstrated interest? Your essays, but that bleeds into the personality part of it…
Hey guys! Does anyone know what day early results come out?
Last year 12/19 @ 5pm EST
So, who else still has to apply tonight? Or is everyone else done?
i am deciding between EA and saving for ED2 if I don’t get into penn ED, my app is done, so I’m not sure what to do
