UChicago Class of 2022 Discussion

@summerhazed I’m still working on my supplemental essay. Going to submit my application around 6 PM.

@blaze077 I finished my extended essay just this morning, the only parts left to fill out are the Additional Info and Activities Sections on the Common App and then I’ll be done

Recommendations can be sent after the deadline, right? Because I have 2-3 recommendations finished already but one more still isn’t done

I submitted mine a couple of hours ago, and now I don’t how I am feeling XD XD

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!

Has anyone received a letter addressed to the parents of the applicant stating how well your daughter/ son will do at U Chicago and info about merit scholarships and financial aid?

I ended up submitting my CommonApp a few minutes before midnight and adding the supplemental essays to my UChicago account a few minutes over the deadline. It seems UChicago’s pretty lenient with their application submission times. You could probably submit your essay in the next couple hours through your UChicago account, and still get away with it without any penalty.

Not that you would want to do that, but it’s possible.

Have alumni interviews started yet? I haven’t gotten any info from UChicago on that…

hey y’all im scared af !!!

@siciliana yes, my parents have received this letter as well.

I interviewed on campus last month and immediately after decided Early Decision was perfect for me. So excited and anxious to get a decision back! Where else has everyone applied besides UChicago?

@Rand2020 I applied EA to Northeastern, and I’ll be applying to UPitt (in-state) and American soon. For RD, I’m doing GWU, Columbia, Princeton, and UPenn (that is if I don’t get into UChicago ED).

Has anyone been contacted about an off-campus interview? I haven’t received anything about it, but I doubt I’ll have one anyway since no one in my area has attended UChicago to my knowledge.

Are you guys receiving emails or phone calls for interviews?

I received an email about an interview on Monday (was pleasantly surprised that there was an alumni in the area) and will be meeting with them after school today! Nervous and excited, haha.

Is it normal that it’s taking so long to process all the applications? It’s been over a week and I’m getting impatient, I just want to see whether or not everything has been sent.

Also, I emailed my regional admissions counselor a few days ago about an additional recommendation that may or may not have been sent. Should I wait a few days to contact her again, or should I email someone else regarding its status?

The same thing happened last year. They get so inundated with the early applications that it might take time to process them all. Didn’t they send a message assuring that they’d give you plenty of time to get any outstanding materials in? They aren’t going to penalize you because they are the ones backlogged. A poster last year joked that they are setting a very poor example to the college students re: getting their work in on time!

Just check your UChicago account each day to get a status update - at some point it’ll either confirm that all your stuff has indeed been received or they will request additional materials. At that point you can probably reach out to your counselor. All your communication is part of your file so there is no need to pester them again in the meantime.

anyone know if applications have started being reviewed yet??

also, my UChicago account has updated that these have been received:

Received Application
Received Chicago Supplement

Received HS Transcript
Received Teacher Recs

Received Test Scores
Is there anything else anyone sees that’s different from ^^ on my account?

@JBStillFlying what do you mean by “All your communication is part of your file”? Does UChicago track how much you contact your admissions counselor (I thought it didn’t do dem. int)?

E-mails are communication and so naturally are part of your file - whether they use it to track demonstrated interest is another matter.
