The U Chicago status check site is down now. It could be new update for decision or overload by heavy traffic to check the status as the EA decision date gets close. :(

I was not matched sorry, the emoticon is right.

hey omar! don’t be discouraged, fingers crossed for the ea date!

Hey guys, I applied for an interview on November 12th but still haven’t heard back from the school. Could it be possible that I don’t end up having one and will that affect my admissions decision? Thanks for any responses!

@prep i saw in another thread that they are done w/EA interviews but won’t hold it against you for not having one. you’re fine

Websites back up, they are officially done processing everything, this is the message that comes up now:
Thank you for applying to UChicago. The processing of application materials is now complete. We will notify you via email in late December when decisions are available.

while this is great and all, i’m kinda disappointed in their choice to say late december. So much for December 18~. Probably going to be around winter break

Akk I sent my regional officer a question on Wednesday (not something that’s answered on the website) along with some info on a new opportunity in one of my ecs, and she never wrote back, even though I’ve written her before and she responded then. I know they were off from Wednesday through the weekend, but they normally write back so quickly that I thought I would have heard back by now. I’m kind of freaking out that she’s read my app and didn’t like it so she doesn’t want to spend time on a bad applicant. I know that sounds stupid, but I’m a worrier haha. Have any of you guys had it take more than two days for an email back? (I think one of their videos said that they try to respond within 24 hours, which is why I’m a bit worried…)

@prep, I actually received an email about there being a glitch in the system. They quickly offered me an interview for Wednesday. This occurred last night. I think I’m a bit too OCD with my application; I’ve emailed my admissions officer multiple times to clarify any misconceptions in my app. and I asked about an interview a lot. Just keep harassing them! (Only kidding).

Sorry to suddenly join the conversation, but I also noticed that the results are now explained to be released in late December. Is it correct to believe that the results are going to be released around Christmas since the apps due date was delayed a week, and a week after the 18th sounds exactly like Christmas?
That would definitely be a nice Christmas present. o(^∇^)o

Except if I get denied… My standardized test scores SUCK in comparison to most of you guys, I’m sure of it. But, why is it that UChicago accepted students ranging from ACT scores of 20-36 last year, yet everyone on CC is quick to tell us that if you have anything less than perfect UChicago is out of range? Completely illogical. I hope all of you guys get in.

@carter i hope you get in too :)

Thanks to the responses guys. I will wait for a few more days, and might contact them too.

The reason people say that a low score puts you out of range is because those people getting 20s are usually:
- recruited athletes
- from extremely trying circumstances or have some amazing hook
- could be affirmative action
its really rare that they pick up a 20 and those 20s are just outliers.

@Steiner I know, an acceptance is the only thing I’m asking ol Kris Kringle for, hopefully he comes through

is it bad that i’m already making playlists for acceptance, deferral, and rejection? i feel like music will help me through this but other people think it’s weird.

@tips, care to provide some sort of concrete evidence for these claims? CC does not count.

I honestly don’t need to provide any examples. Give me an example of a person who isn’t an athlete, from an ethnic minority, or coming from amazingly special circumstances that got into UChicago with an act of 20

I’m not an admissions officer and I take it you aren’t either, therefore you cannot say, with complete certainty, that only students with certain “hooks” etc. are admitted with “mediocre” scores.

Fair enough, I’m not an admissions officer, but its extremely unlikely that at a university where the average ACT is what, a 31-34 ( if not higher now), that a 20 is a mediocre score.

Late December, eh? The wait is eating me up! I wish I had some indication of what my chances were. If I was likely to get in OR likely to get rejected, it would take a lot of the stress off, but I honestly don’t know.
