UChicago EA/ED Class of 2021

Waiting a few days after the 15th makes a lot of sense. NU up the street, for instance, tends to announce its ED’s on 12/14-12/15. By the 15th, pretty much everyone but UChicago will have announced ED’s. In the past UChicago would wait a few days to announce EA’s in order to give those accepted ED elsewhere by 12/15 some time to drop their applications. This year 12/15 falls on a Thurs. and 12/19 on a Monday. That’s an entire weekend to drop out of the EA pool. Therefore, Monday 12/19 looks a lot more likely, IMHO, than 12/16 for an EA release date. From comments on either this or another thread ED is relased the same date so that means 12/19 for both.

My mom and I currently are betting on when UChicago will release their EA/ED decisions and I’m predicting after 5pm on 12/16. After five so their offices will be closed so the parents who call to complain won’t have anyone to talk to, and on Friday so the students who don’t get in have the weekend to cry, eat some ice cream, take a bubble bath, and formulate plan B.

@GingerSquad - this time of year the AO is open 24/7. CMU just released their ED’s at midnight this morning (Sunday 12/11). However, you are correct that no one is planning to answer the phone.

What is your mom predicting?

@JBStillFlying2 My mom thinks it will be 12 noon on Friday. Her reasoning is that UChicago is compassionate enough to answer the phone to direct the devastated parents to the many other fine institutions where their children can succeed.

@GingerSquad - love your mom’s thinking!

So what with the EA vs. ED chances… am I fated to deferment as an EA applicant, or will a 36 ACT (1 sitting) and quadruple legacy (parents, others) get me that elusive EA acceptance? Or am I essentially screwed by not doing ED?

If you add good ECs and essays to those stats and legacy, I think you would be in good shape.

I guess the thing is- none of us know. The decisions are based on SO many factors. For example- geographic diversity is important, so a student with a great record from Montana is more likely to get in than a student with a great record from New York. They want to have diversity in terms of high school type/size, extracurricular activities (Model UN is a great activity, but they can’t accept a class full of people on Model UN), and other factors. It’s just such a coin flip at this point that I really don’t think anyone should be getting their hopes up or banking on getting in. I know I’m not.

I was nervous because it’s been several years since Chicago admitted anyone from my school, and around 7-10 girls (all girls’ Catholic school) have applied every year. I’m the only one who applied ED (at least to my knowledge), but it’s still nerve-wracking. I’m just trying to take it easy, really.

I think it’s going to be really hard for EAers this year. They will want to fill their early spots with EDers whenever possible. I wonder if they’ll release the numbers of applicants for each pool.

We should pull our applications EA out of spite for their releasing their notification date so late…

I AM SO NERVOUS JESUS. ED BRAZILIAN HOPE IT HELPS.

HOW MANY BRAZILIANS DO YOU GUYS THINK APPLY ED?

Oh, decisions will come on the 16 according to some of my friends in uchi. 7 pm brazilian time.

My kid’s chewing is fingernails down to the nubs like the rest of you. Here’s what I told him:

UChicago’s verdict on your application is not a verdict on your life. Your life will be yours, offering you more fantastic opportunities than you’ll know what to do with, regardless of where you end up.

Whatever happens next Friday, yours will be a world of surprise and wonder. No committee of faceless functionaries has the power to take that away from you.

Can we please get some confirmation on that Friday Dec. 16th decision date? Has Admissions made an announcement?

i think they’re channeling trump’s “i’ll keep you in suspense”

@OldSoul Right on, Sister!!! :bz This does not define anyone for the good or the bad! If only it were that easy!

they will tell us the date tomorrow i think

Im pretty worried just like the rest of you. I am a recruited athlete and applied ED but I’m nervous because my academics are not stellar. I have a 32 ACT and 3.9 uw gpa but Chicago is so hard to get into. The coach said I should be fine but I’m still really worried.
