@Kepler1z they should send you your information in the mail sometime soon
hey guys remember to post in the decisions thread! http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/university-chicago/1944862-university-of-chicago-ea-ed-results-only-p1.html
help out next year’s applicant procrastinate:)
I didn’t think I would get EA deferred. I was expecting to wake up to straight up rejection. I’m literally crying (tears of joy btw) right now coz WUSTL rejection had made me lose confidence at any acceptance whatsoever. So to those accepted, congratulations! And those deferred, lets be happy about second chances as not all of us are priveleged with one. Let’s make the most out of it! To those rejected, I know the feeling, and let me tell you that as corny as it sounds, life has it planned for you. Eventually you’ll stumble in the correct door tho the journey may be long and unclear. I hope we all use our winter break efficiently and hopefully reach the correct place we seek.
PS. If anyone made a deferred thread please let me know. Thank you! <3
so when would be a good time to send that renewed interest letter? tomorrow? after break?
Deferred but I got into Brown ED so no worries
My senior was deferred EA last year. Fortunately she was accepted RD in March. At the admitted students’ weekend last April, we learned admission offers were extended to only 3% of deferred applicants – by far the smallest percentage of the ones they listed off. The admissions director likened it to walking on water . . .
Accepted applicants: anyone know when we receive those talked-about uchicago goodies in the mail? That would be a great holiday gift!
I bet the deferred applicants will fare better in RD admissions than deferred applicants have in the past. If U Chi filled approximately the same percent of the class with early kids this year as last year, (and this year it’s pretty obvious they were looking for ED kids instead of EA kids to fill the early spots) then it makes sense that they deferred more well-qualified EA applicants this year than in past years. So I bet their admit rates will be closer to the RD kids’ admit rates. This is just a guess-- but it makes sense to me. But when you think of it, it’s possible that they thought of EA this year as a way to see who didn’t have them as a clear first choice. It’s true. The EA kids had a chance to do ED, and they didn’t. It was a trap from the start. Not saying they intended it to be that way. But in retrospect, they were NEVER going to take a lot of the EA kids if enough qualified kids applied ED. I think they kept EA this year as a safe guard in case their new ED policy wasn’t popular. I think it would have garnered more trust had they just taken their own risk and only offered ED this year. I’m really just a lay person who is speculating, but in the words of Mr. Ollivander, “curious… very curious.”
It’s not a trap but rather they are tricking out who is 100% committed. BTW, the next in line to be admitted would be EDII.
@Kepler1z, you should have received your financial aid and or merit based aid at the same time your acceptance was sent to you. At least this is how it was last year. There was a link to it somewhere on the bottom of the page. My D did not notice it until someone on CC relayed it to the people that were posting their results last year.
What do you guys think the ED II acceptance rate will look like? Maybe not a specific number, but will it be closer to the generous numbers of ED I or closer to EA/RD?
I think the ED2 numbers will be quite a bit lower than ED1 because it will be a highly competitive pool. Lots of talented kids getting deferred from SCEA and Ivy ED schools may apply to Chicago for ED2.
What @hebegebe is saying.
idk if this happened to anybody else, but my regional admissions counselor straight up told me to not apply ED because it was too risky and he thought it was stupid…I feel a little cheated now considering that acceptance rate was obviously a lot higher. He told me they would be reviewing those people and their applications and financial aid, etc. with high skepticism because it’s the first year they’re doing it. I told him it was my first choice, but I was worried about FA and he told me to apply EA not ED…
if people weren’t accepted ED, were most deferred? or rejected…
edit: oops poor wording
@hotentoth I will be sending my reaffirmed interest tomorrow along with my decision to switch my application to EDII!
Has anyone received merit based aid of any sort?
How do you go about switching from EA to ED II?
I think we’ll get a packet / letter in the mail confirming acceptance + giving info about financial aid / merit scholarships
If they care about the yield rate… Then the ones who got accepted by EA are whom they believe will accept the admittance or just too good to turn down?
