@XXATR22 So the nice thing about UChicago is that they offer several different tracks for the global studies major - there’s like world lit/culture and world history and world government/politics. I’m interested in international law, so the government/politics track is what I’m looking to get involved in (it’s kind of like a political science track but more focused on global politics). On your creative writing major: that is super cool! I may or may not pick up a creative writing minor (depends on how everything turns out)!
@zstar18; Now, that sounds really cool! I did not realize UChicago offered a World Literature/ World Culture route for the Global Studies major.
I learn something new, every day, haha. Also, I agree, Creative Writing is a good path to go!
anyone have any idea when decisions are going to be released?
@jazziscool; I did some searching through past transfer threads and have found the latest date of decision release to be May 7th. Because, however, there has been no notice of portal checklist material disappearance—i.e., I have noticed a 14 day period between checklist disappearance and decision release date—I suppose either May 8th or May 11th to be the date of release, at the latest. Hope this helps!
@XXATR22; @jazziscool; Hi, just a correction of my earlier response:
Based upon the discussions of prior College Confidential transfer and EA/ED threads, there are two main components to consider in the search of a release date. 1) The deadline for submitting missing materials, and 2) the disappearance of the checklist.
After the presented deadline for uploading essential material (in this case, April 15), a period of nine days must pass before the UChicago Portal Checklist disappears. Subsequent to the disappearance, a span of fourteen days commences. On the fourteenth day since the disappearance of the UChicago Portal checklist is the release date of admissions decisions.
Ex: On December 4, 2019; Applicants reported disappearance of their UChicago Portal Checklist. Fourteen days later, admission decisions were released on the eighteenth (December 18, 2019). In this here example, I did not pinpoint any mentioning of 2019’s missing material deadline, as there was no indication of when the deadline was.
Ex: On April 22, 2016; An applicant noticed their portal’s checklist disappeared (there is a great chance the checklist disappeared the day before on the 21st, however, which attests to my notice of a pattern), and on the fifth admissions decisions were released (May 5, 2016).
Had things gone as expected (i.e., for our Portal Checklist to disappear on April 24, 2020, nine days after the last day of submitting missing materials (i.e., April 15, 2020)), decisions would have been released, for us, on the eight of May (May 8, 2020).
To show some form of support for my findings, it is known the latest admissions decisions released for UChicago transfer students is May 7th. Due to the current pandemic, the date for admissions release may have pushed a day later (I know this is contradictory to my earlier post, which stated my unsuspecting admissions decisions to be impacted by the pandemic, however, that was due to my earlier overlooking the aforementioned set pattern and rash decision to not dig deeper).
Overall, excuse the earlier mistake made. At the latest, admissions decisions should be released at 4:00 PM CST between May 8th - May 15th. Once the UChicago Portal checklist disappears, I may be able to estimate a more specific release date.
Thanks for joining/visiting the thread!
The following is data from past transfer threads:
Checklist………Decisions
04-25-19……….05-08-19
04-19-18…………05-03-18
04-21-17…………05-02-17
04-23-16……….05-05-16
05-05-15……….05-06-15
05-02-14……….05-02-14
*(These dates represent the first day the events were mentioned on College Confidential, not necessarily the dates they actually happened.)
My checklist has not been removed yet; this would be the lastest the checklist has been removed recently, so I think decisions will come out after May 8th. UChicago’s website states that admission decisions will be released “Early May”. Based on this, I think decisions will be released before May 15.
Final Answer: Between May 8 and May 15.
@McFly3141592 ; Hey! Looks like we’re in agreement!
Decisions should be expected between May 8th - May 15th.
Also, thanks for joining/visiting the thread!
Yeah. I think your analysis is reasonable. I wish decisions would come out before May 8th (the wait is grueling), but I can’t see it happening.
If I’m accepted, it will affect my summer plans. So, until decisions are released I’m in limbo.
@McFly3141592; Are you waiting on admissions decisions for universities other than UChicago? In other words, have you applied solely to UChicago?
(Also, out of curiosity: Have you chosen a major?)
Have anyone’s checklists disappeared yet? Mine is still there.
@zstar18; Hi! No, mine is still visible–alike and kicking.
@XXATR22; I applied to two universities (UMich and UChicago). I was accepted at UMich, but I’m still waiting on UChicago’s decision.
I am looking to major in mathematics.
What about you?
@zstar18; My checklist is still up.
@McFly3141592; Cool! My major is Creative Writing.
Also, UChicago is the only school I applied to. It’s my number one.
(+ I love a little risk! )
UMich sounds cool! I feel so stoked to hear you got in!
If you had to choose between the two, which would you go for?
@XXATR22; UChicago is my first choice, but with their ~6% acceptance rate and being waitlisted out of high school, I wasn’t brave enough to apply there exclusively. UMich’s acceptance rate is more forgiving.
That said, both universities are exceptional, and with the GI Bill, the cost is low at both. So I’m content no matter the decision.
I enjoy writing, but I haven’t taken any writing, or English, classes at university. I’ve taken almost exclusively science, mathematics, and programming courses. Since UChicago prides itself on its diverse liberal arts curriculum, I’m worried that my homogeneous class selections could prove problematic, but I suppose I won’t know until decisions come out.
@McFly3141592; I admire your perseverance in applying to UChicago. Low admit rates bear great potential for scaring off applicants. Assuming that you are a transfer student (hence the basis of this thread), what is your current university like?
On a side note, I can see why the liberal arts curriculum can bring in a bit of concern for you; however, I feel UChicago can pinpoint their desired type. Your apparent focus on Science, Mathematics, and Programming could allure a grand amount of attention from the admissions committee to your student profile. Going against the grain, in your case by showing interest in the Sciences despite the promoted liberal arts stance, is one of the key components UChicago is all for, in regards to its applicants!
As long as your application shows 1) your adoration of and ability to contribute to the college and your peers, 2) your bearing of a great, friendly, inquisitive personality, and 3) areas showcasing a history, a clear distinction of your applied passion in your current school or prior institution, I feel you will do amazing! (Of course, there are other factors; regardless, I feel you will succeed! )
XXATR22; I think you have a good chance as well.
Currently, I commute to a large, low-ranked public university. I knew going in that it was unlikely to be the right university for me, but limited finances and poor planning defined my options. I’m trapped by my current institution’s mathematics offerings. I’m ready to take higher-level courses than what my university offers to undergraduates, and graduate courses, at my current institution, don’t count for credit towards an undergraduate degree. I’ve hit an impasse. The only way through is to go around, i.e., change universities.
Why are you interested in transferring? Why specifically to UChicago?
@McFly3141592; I admire your pursuit of passion. The idea of an institution thwarting your ability to progress forward is unfavorable. I can see some key areas where UChicago could help with that. Based upon my understanding of matriculation into UChicago, applicants, once accepted, have a math assessment prior that places them in the math level they fit best. This, for one, should grant you the ability to gain access to the higher-level math courses–that, counting toward your degree–you desire. Also, I love your thinking on fit, some would rather stick through dismay due to a college. Great decision with fighting for what you want and know you need in education!
I, myself, am a second-year college student at a community college nearby. If I were to stay another semester, I would be classified as a third-year student (which I am not looking forward to at my current institution. Growth is warranted, haha). Moreover, the story of my interest in UChicago and my decisions to transfer is quite immense. LOL.
In short, during my transition from Visual Arts to Creative Writing, back in Junior year of High School, I received one of those invitational brochures from UChicago and decided to keep it; found myself in a difficult decision, leading to my dropping art and embracing Creative Writing (an Honors class my Senior year), and my direct admission into a community college where I began my plan to major in Creative Writing upon transfer, recalling my earlier interests in UChicago. Throughout the time of initial interests to current for UChicago, furthermore, I did some research on the institution and found it hilarious how much in common I and that liberal arts institutions share. So, now, having applied, I shall hear my fate
On another note, I mentioned my history of writing and managed some admirable LOCs (I really do love my instructors, they are ace–“Chef’s kiss,” as some may say), and implemented some supplemental material (some research and storyboards) into my application. If you don’t mind me asking, how do you feel about your application, and have you done the Optional Video Profile (I haven’t yet sigh)?

Hi, I have received this message on my portal:
“Thank you for checking on your application status! At this time, we have processed all of your application materials. Transfer applicants will be notified of their decisions in early May via email.”
Based on this message (although I think my portal has looked wacky for days), I can guestimate admissions results should be released on May 12th, 4:00 CST.
Same here, best of luck to you all!
