UChicago RD Stats/Decisions Thread

Admitted transfers:
Have you gotten Financial Aid? (When?)
Have you gotten a transfer credit evaluation? (When?)

You guys probably already know but Chicago doesn't accept any transfer credit from professional/technical courese, ie journalism, business law, musical performance, speech, nursing, courses. That sucks for me (if Im accepted) because my school is a pretty professional school. Oh well.

Also, I'm almost sure of my final grades, and it seems like my 2nd semester is going to be about 3.65-3.75. I have only 1 class I'm not sure about and have yet to beg a professor for a higher grade since I am less than .1 away from an A. Anyway, my first semester was a 3.5 and I was waitlisted. Since I am getting a 1.5+ higher GPA for the 2nd semester, would this mean I am pretty much in, or not? I'm thinking maybe they thought "lets wait, if he gets 3.8+ we'll accept" or something, but I don't know. Any thoughts?

My thoughts are that your final transcript needs to get in and be as good as possible.

neverborn, do EA have until June 15th to reply????????????????

Yes they do.

bball: Yep. Do you have a transfer evaluation yet?

So I called Chicago today..... Crystal is very nice to talk to at times.

Me: Just to make sure, the decisions will be coming out the 15th right?
C: Yes, we are going to try to make it by then.
Me: I was curious though, wouldn't the decisions be delayed since there was a 15 day extension for already-admitted students to enroll? Wouldn't that affect when the time of our decisions?
C: You are a smart boy.

lol I think she said boy, or was it kid? Regardless. I wouldn't expect anything till the 22nd.

I have to make my Northwestern deposit by the 15th. And, unfortunately, it looks like I'm gonna have to make that deposit without my Chicago decision.

Well, I guess it's not that big a deal. If Chicago accepts me and gives me better or comparable finaid, I can live with losing the deposit.

It's the wait that really sucks.

I spoke with John Laseman last week and he indicated that the first round of transfer credit evaluations were on the way....please post when you begin to receive them.

Thanks,

Wow. What I don't understand is even though they have clearly delayed EVERYTHING, they don't seem to be trying to fix this. They were late getting EA decisions, then RD decisions, then AID and Credit...yes I realize that they all depend on each other, but shouldn't they at least try to rush a little more? What have the aid/credit ppl office been doing for over a month? How can "the first round of transfer credit evaluations" just now be on the way? It pis ses me off and I'm not even in that pool.

On a lighter note, I guess since Chicago is messing with people like this, they might have a lower yield which is good for waitlisted student like me :)

He did post this late on a Sunday night...

Yes, but he doesn't necessarily have to be at the office to write on the blog. Oh well it doesn't really matter, we are all still waiting.

I also get the feeling that Jerry is a little more concerned about us transfers than the other people in the office. It may be that he is one of the few people who are actually trying to do as much as possible. Hence him sitting around thinking about us on Sunday night. :)

But that their is something seriously wrong in the admissions office can't be disputed. Maybe it's just not Jerry's fault.

Oh I agree on that. I feel sorry for Jerry because he gets flamed at the most simply because he is the only representative that students are so much in contact with and I bet the information he gives on the blog isn't simply his doing, rather its what the admissions committee wants us to know. So when he says "you should have them next week" or something like that, I think its because thats what they agreed to say as a committee. Of course there are other things like him personally saying he will call back and not...but what can you do. It's not ALL his fault though, and I really believe that he is at least trying to improve.

It's just getting stupid.

It's been stupid.

Remains stupid.

I don't even know if I should post this stuff because it doesn't really seem like there are a lot of waitlisted students reading this but whatever.

I just talked with Crystal and asked what the size of the waitlist is. She said she really doesn't know but it would probably be around 50 students. Also, appearentally unranked waitlist means that they review each waitlisted student after they get everything and then fill up the available spots. So they kind of start fresh which is nice I guess.

Not like they'll have credit evaluations out until June 30.

I wonder if the bureaucratic nightmare extends to other parts of the undergraduate college.

That's what really worries me.

A one time tour through hell with admissions is bad enough; I just hope things are done right elsewhere.
