UChicago RD Stats/Decisions Thread

They deserve it.

One of the posters mentioned the DMV. That's exactly where Jerry should go to work; he'd feel right at home. LOL You have to be a real flake to have your words contradict your actions so consistently.

Yeah I'm sick of this. I was the one who posted the "I guess now is too soon to start keeping your word..." and "Jerry, I was just informed that Mr. O'Neill will not be in the office untill the 26th". However, their incompetence has given me more time to think about my academic career...If I take full summer classes and max credits allowed during a regular semester, I can finish Baruch after the 1st semester of my Junior year and pay about 10-12K (amount of money I would pay after now) or if I get in to Chicago I will have to be there a lot longer because it is more difficult so I can't take as many courses as easily, and they won't accept some of my credits, all the while risking having a lower GPA. Perhaps most importantly, I will have to spend over 100K. Any thoughts?

I don't know. My passion for Chicago is slowly fading.

Well, obviously, you didn't apply to Chicago to save money. So... since it's clear you were willing to pay for the experience of a Chicago education, I wouldn't let admissions change your mind. After all, Jerry Doyle doesn't run the academic departments. (Thank God! lol)

But then there is the question, which I am also asking myself, of whether this disease that has infected the admin office is also infecting other parts of the school. I don't see any evidence for that, but maybe it's worth investigating further, especially since your financial investment in the school would be such a large one. If you can find evidence for similar disorder and disrespect toward students in the academic departments (analogous to the disrespect shown toward us transfer applicants), then it might be time to reconsider. Fortunately, I haven't read any stories of students complaining about this kind of disrespect... So hopefully this is just a problem with Admissions or, more specifically, with Jerry.

In other words, don't let the admissions experience alone crush your Chicago dreams.

Well, those are all the thoughts I have right now. Hope they help. :)

Don't care. Sent in deposit, even after being treated like ****. I'll never have to deal with them again.

I was just rejected by email from the U of C!

This sucks.

Jerry's promises were nothing but hot air. Why in the world did he tell me all that stuff?

Dear John,

I appreciate your continued interest in the University of Chicago and thus feel all the more sorry to say that Chicago will be unable to offer you
admission from the waiting list. We thank you for your interest and for your patience.

Our inability to offer you a place in the Class is Chicago's loss. We can only wish you the best of luck at the school you will attend.

Yours truly,
Theodore A. O'Neill
Dean of Admissions

Jerry did not promise to accept you.

Yeah, yeah, I know, nspeds. But, damn, it's almost like you are running some sort of logical precision filter over all of the threads on CC. lol

But he very nearly communicated a conditional acceptance ("if you do fine this semester, you should have no problem"). His whole personality just ****es me off. It's obvious from so many of his posts that he is not very concerned with the truth of his statements.

Awwww, shucks.:)

I am sorry, but hey, you are off to Northwestern, right? Chicago can shove it if they do not want to take as good a student as you.

well johnM, it has been a long ride and at least there was this forum to communicate with fellow applicants like you. I have also been rejected :( I wouldn't have been as shook up if I had initially been rejected, but after being waitlisted I thought there was more hope. Oh well, life goes on. I'm still waiting on Northwestern, but even if that comes in I'll probably stay at Baruch, save money, make improvements to my career, and attempt to transfer to Chicago next year. Even if I had been accepted that was sort of the plan, but being accepted this year meant that I had a higher chance next year.

I had a 3.5 GPA when I applied. 2nd semester I had a 3.81 and a great rec...so yeah. Sucks but at least I'm not in Darfur.

Well, sorry to hear that jacknjill... I think I've ridden the CC Chicago train with you the longest. :)

You still have a really good shot at NU, so good luck there!

Thanks nspeds. :) Yeah, I will now definitely be at NU next semester. I guess that's a pretty big step from a community college. So I definitely can't complain about it! I'm really curious to see how the classes are compared to my cc experience. I think I am going to double major in pure math and electrical engineering (not a very common combination, I know). I think I'll take a reasonable course load first quarter, see how I do, then juice it up a couple notches if I do well.

Bring it on. :D

johnM and jacknjill, sorry to hear that. i'm quite surprised you've been rejected, you both are great candidates... as for me, i still don't have my final transcipt to send to the UChi. i feel like they will finally have to reject me without reviewing my applicatian as there's nothing to review ))))

To those who get in UChicago, PM me. I can show you how to get set up with a @uchicago.edu e-mail address despite not getting info in the mail yet. You can also join my "New Transfer Students" Facebook group. :D

I was rejected and served with eviction papers on the same day. Ugh...

As jacknjill says, at least I'm not in Darfur. Or on the slow boat to China.

/mourn pip-pip

<3
:(

Sorry to hear that pip :( I got over it pretty fast but I still haven't told most of my friends or any of my profs (I had like 4 recs) cause I don't want to deal with all the "oh I'm sorry"'s. Ooooh well.

If anyone should have gotten off the waitlist it was pip-pip.

God only knows what Chicago was smoking this year.

Awww, shucks, johnM. I wish you the best of luck at NU next year!

Thanks pip-pip. Good luck to you too!

Has any rejected waitlisted applicant here called and asked why they were rejected or any other questions of the sort? I've been meaning to call but...yeah
