UChicago RD Stats/Decisions Thread

I feel like I should be developing contingency plans for a waitlist/rejection. Jack Bauer always has contingency plans. Then again, if I were Jack Bauer, I would have had my decision by now.

So is it Chicago or bust, pip-pip?

Oh, you have no idea.

If you were Jack, you would be on your way to China getting tortured right now :(

Thanks for the fresh info. I dont know whether to be happy or sad.

rejected. (over the phone)

jacknjill, I know how this works. And I get one phone call.

not if you spit at me, fool!

gonsenheim Im very sorry. Try to not have this affect your finals though, you can always apply again next year (right?) if you want to. Im pretty sure I will be greiving with you pretty soon.

jacknjill, just remember: when life gave Jack Bauer lemons, he used them to kill terrorists.

Has anybody gotten accepted today?

omg, they are such L I A R S! I just called in and found out there was no decision for me yet.
"...expect it in a couple of days."

Waitlisted.

Hey Everyone
I have been sitting in agony for the past week only to find out now that there are all these Forums are where people like me take it out.

Guess I will post my stats:

Current School: Brandeis UNiversity
College GPA: 3.9
HS GPA: 3.4 unweighted, 3.95 out of 5 weighted
SAT: 800 M, 660 L- 1460 total
Recs: One pretty good from my Writing Seminar Teaching Fellow the other from my awesome Comp Sci Prof who liked me a lot.
ECs: Pretty good in High School, Wrote for the paper and had a job in college
Essays: OK, probably my weak point.

So I guess since 70 people got in that's probably NOT a good sign for those of us who haven't got an email... Visiting my friends in the University this winter like really opened my eyes to what College should be like. I changed my whole way of looking at life after I came back. Oh well, hope there is still a chance.

Thanks jacknjill....I actually got a 4.0 this semester, the irony is that it won't count for anything. I'm a junior this year, so this was actually my last chance...I'm going to nyu next year and I'll do two more years though. Chicago would have been amazing, but I'm not disappointed with nyu...Good luck everyone!

pip-pip, dont worry that means you still have a shot. Granted your probably mad that you still wont know where your gonna be next year and you have to work more on your apps (not have to, but you should), but it could have been worse. You should check the Chicago forum in CC because someone who was waitlisted made a couple of threads about what hes doing and its quite impressive (basically constant communication with them). Unfortunately, I don't think he was accepted. Nonetheless, its nice to see what others have done.

kaganms: You seem to pretty good stats so don't loose hope. Are you applying as a second year or third year student (I feel like I mixed something up here)? We are supposed to find out tomorrow, so we'll see then I guess.

gonsenheim: Thats sad about the 4.0. But if your applying to grad school that will definately help so its not a complete waste. Interestingly enough, I may go to NYU (CAS) too. What school did you get into? I dont really want to but there are certain circumstances that are pushing me towards the school. I didnt get accepted straight out though, I have to start off my 1st semester in London.

Speaking of NYU, this was a pretty bad thing: I just got out of a eco final and went to check my email for a decision (Im so naive). I have like 4 new emails and the subject of one of them reads, "Dear Kutgun, Congratulations on your acceptance to ..." and ends there. Since I already got an email from NYU, I wasn't expecting anything from them, rather from Chicago of course and I flipped out. Unfortunately, it wasnt from Chicago, and now the people in the compter lab think Im crazy. Thanks NYU

Oh well we'll see. Its a pain going through the decisions process during finals. :(

I am going to be a second year next year. Chicago is the only place I am applying to. I actually kind of feel bad, because my current college is decent, I just want it to be better - i.e. Chicago.

Even though my credentials seem ok, I think my High School was late sending in transcripts and one of my recs was lost... that's what they said when I emailed them. That happened right before finals, so I had no time to deal with all of that. Now I kind of wish I did...

Oh well, we are almost at the decision.

jacknjill: I'm going to CAS as well...I want to go into ibanking so being new york is essential for me. I've always been a city guy (I'm from mexico city), so I'm actually excited about going there.

I want to major in Economics and possibly Math so thats why I applied to CAS, although if I thought I had a shot at Stern I woulda took it. I'm also interested with IBanking :)

Besides the academics and reputation and other qualities of Chicago, the key thing for me was the location. I visited my friends that go to college in fairly suburban places and I really dont see myself having fun there at all. I need the big buildings and crowded streets. Last year I never really thought about that and applied to places like UWisconsin-Madison and UNCCH, but I'm glad I stayed here in NYC a year before really committing myself to the whole college experience. Have you ever been to NY before?

i'm sorry pip-pip i just saw the post, i still think you are amazing, don't give up hope yet!

No, don't worry about it. I didn't get an email, but I called yesterday and found out I was accepted, so don't give up just yet.

hmmm...thanks for the momentary hope and congratulations. Do you think you will be attending Chicago? Where else have you applied to? Northwestern?

I've been having the worst day and being rejected will really mess me up. I had a final at 8 and woke up at 8:01, arrived 35 minutes late to a 2 hour exam (business law). I was hoping for an A but Ill probably get around a B if Im lucky. Come oooon Chicago.

if I dont get an email by 1ish Ill call. Anyone else hear?
