UCI Acceptance

You didn’t apply to UCSC?

@avasthename,

I called them about two weeks ago and I called them today. They told me that my app hadn’t been evaluated yet.

@rawf: No, I did not apply for UCSC.

Sorry, i know this isn’t the place to post this but I’m a senior at high school heading into community college this fall and my major is also going to be biology. I wanted to ask what classes exact, do you need to take before transferring to UCI? I’m confused because I know you need to take General Education classes but do you also need to take classes pertaining to your major before transferring? And what are pre-reqs?

Go to [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) to see what pre-requisite courses you need to complete before applying. You should complete all your GE’s and pre-reqs before you apply as it greatly increases your chances of getting admitted.

@iwaslikedang
Assist really is the best place to look. A few of the pre-requisites for the biology major will probably work for your G.E. as well. you should look into that because hopefully it will help you to not end up taking a ton of extra classes. I would not rely completely on the community college councelors btw, because they tend to be wrong a lot causing delays in transferring and so on. Assist will totally become your best friend so def learn the in’s and out’s of it! :slight_smile: Good luck!

@avasthename the reason im freaking out its because TAG applicants should have been admitted in march before everyone else(according to what they told me) plus the contract is not really a contract its just a button you click and also the fact there is always cracks in the system its 9 days left does it realy take that long to honor a contract?

You are supposed to sign a TAG contract with your counselor (at least that’s what I had to do).

I thought that was only for the old TAG system? I didn’t think the new one required a contract at all.

UCI this year requires that you sign a contract with transfer office

if you legitimately have a tag contract you should not be worrying. it is not ‘just a button you click’ you had to actually write up and sign a contract with your councelor and a UCI councelor. If Irvine’s computers messed up then im sure they would not just say oops oh well sorry but we arent allowing you in anymore. unless you violated your contract you are fine. and Grimes99, there is no new tag system. For Fall 2010 you still had to sign an actual contract.

last year and previous years you had to sign a contract and then guarantee you a place in uci at the spot but this year it was just a button on the online application i actually called them when i was applying and told them i wasnt offered one but they said the application one is the contract and also the contract is not your counsilor but a uci counsilor and then let in early which is on march so yea its confusing if im wrong i would like to be corrected so someone find out from uci and let me know cc counsilor are just confused i wouldnt trust them i would rather hear from the horse’s mouth

i actually just called them and they said its online does anyone want uci number?

@avast: I’ve been in CC for what seems like a decade, so when I say “new” I’m refering to the newer TAG system. The old one required you to go workshops, learn about the system, then sign a physical contract that stipulated what you had to do in order to gain entry through TAG. This was probably three years ago and it was infinitely more complex than the current TAG system. The GPA requirement was also at 2.8 back then, not 3.0 like it is now.

lol what did i say. no one cares about uci anymore. 1/2 of the threads in the first page are about ucla haha. im still curious about uci tho : [

Any Business Econ majors still waiting to hear from UCI? I’m already rejected at UCLA…

i was rejected at UCLA too, but im not that upset. i just wanted to go to irvine. and i think other people do care too…and i have been going to a cc for 3.5 years too but i didnt start looking into a tag until about a year into my college time. That would suck to go to workshops and stuff for a tag! but since about half of my friends signed contracts all i know is that they signed the contract with their uci (or davis, sd, etc) and cc councelor. i think it is weird that they are saying you can just check the box. cus how on earth do they know that you are actually going on a contract? idk what to think anymore.

people dont care anymore?..are you a incoming freshman iluvpho? lots of people havent heard yet including myself…ive been accepted to other schools but uci is my main choice. you should think before you make such a generalization next time.

After signing with your counselor they directed you to go online and fill out a TAG checklist through UCI’s website. I’m guessing we could have just skipped the physical signing part since we had to do the online part anyway.

The thing is that UCI required you to sign the tag by Oct 15, whereas every other UC wanted it by the end of Nov., which you could indicate on the UC app. But if you didn’t do the TAG checklist through UCI’s site before the 15th, I don’t think you are TAGed (ie. you only checked it on the UC app but didn’t go to the UCI site)… unless maybe you turned your app in before the 15th.

ehh doesn’t matter, UCI is easy to get into without TAG anyway.

@vertex thats true and thats what i did so there is no physical contract to sign its just checking the checklist and thats what TAG is and then after that on the uc apps u check tag again so thats what i meant by cracks in the system because the uci counsilor does not sit with you and say go ahead everything looks fine sign here you know what im saying or the computer does not reject the TAG if its not matching so they could always come back and say blah blah was not in good order in takes the G out TAG but in the previous years it was good coz your counsilor says its in good order and uci says its in good order then you all sign so basically everyone agrees on something
