What @“aunt bea” said is true, right after I received my rejection. I inquired about the reason of the decision since all UCs do have a reason for rejection and they simply can tell you If you call them. I was told I had insufficient English courses in my senior while I had all the required courses and submitted them but It seems like there was an error on their end. So I was told by the admissions to pursue an appeal If I believed this was an error, and submit all the transcripts again and a letter of appeal which wasn’t too lengthy. I was told that the appeal letter should be clear, brief, keeping a positive tone throughout the letter, and explaining the situation (Like low GPA or SAT/ACT).
hello! I’ve been skimming through all your comments and it seems like a lot of people appealed! I just sent in my appeal letter yesterday and I was wondering what the chances are??? My stats are pretty low compared to all yours but here it goes… SAT:1890 UW:3.64 W:4.14 … so my academics weren’t great. But I was on varsity golf for three years and we won CIF two years ago and I initiated a club last year. I had a decent amount of extracurricular activities as well, such as volunteering at homeless shelters and church leadership, etc. I’ve been in the IB program for two years and I put that on my appeal letter… also, I put that during my junior year, the passing of my grandmother who had raised me for my entire childhood really made my grades slip. I really want to get into UCI so badly! When will they notify us? Does anyone know?
- I'm from Fullerton which is pretty close to UCI... does it matter where you come from? Is it true that out-of-state students have advantage over in-states? Thanks!
Just wanted to update everyone on my appeal letter. I just recently checked on Saturday 4/18 and my status was updated to pending! trying not to get my hopes up but I’m glad they confirmed they received my appeal letter
soo, I found this website called college data that has UCI’s current up-to-date statistics.
I don’t wanna be a downer, but normally around 6000 new freshmen enroll every year…
and it’s already over 7000 (more than 30% of admitted committed)… and I was getting really worried.
Does anyone know if this means they won’t be looking at waitlists or appeals?

Just for clarification for everybody reading, those statistics above are from last year and not accurate or predictive for this year
I called the admission office, they said most of the applicants who appealed will most likely hear sometime in June.
If you’ve been accepted at other institutions, go ahead and accept one of the offers and retract it once UCI’s acceptance comes through (hopefully)
Hey guys just curious who sent in their appeal letter? I’ve been reading past years UCI Appeal forums and theres about 14 pages of people who appeal so just wondering if people didn’t appeal maybe this year?
I called today and they said that appeal decisions are coming out July due to needing to know how many spots are available.
Decisions coming out in July is so inconvenient… I wish the UCI admissions office would be quicker with their responses. After the transfer SIR deadline… we should be able to hear back asap
Hi I submitted my appeal on April 14. Its inconvenient that the appeals are coming out in July. Should I take the UC writing exam just in case my appeal gets accepted?
I got rejected and called admissions. We figured out that my units were incorrectly counted. How would I go about appealing this, as in, what would I even say in the appeal besides this? My appeal seems so short. Is it meant to be a paragraph or two?
@JPJordan the deadline to appeal has already passed though
@badmintongirl Transfer appeal deadline is May 15th
@JPJordan Hey man, I’m appealing too and my letter seems pretty short as well. Mines is about 500 words
@Dannybui9 I’m almost done with mine, it’ll be about 1000 words. I feel like it’s too long, but I didn’t want to leave out anything. I know it should be short and concise, but it’d be impossible for me to explain my situation simpler than I already have. Anyway, let’s hope we get in. I talked to my counselor and he told me that if there’s no mention of two classes conflicting each other in your cc’s catalog/schedule, that you shouldn’t be penalized for it. So the appeal will most likely go through. Keepin my fingers crossed, man.
@JPJordan I don’t think I can appeal anymore, no use. My cc’s transfer director was trying to do everything she can to find a way for me to complete my 60 units prior to spring so I could have “new and compelling” information to appeal. She found a UC Trasnferrable Kines class that just started on Wedenesday, that’s 3 units down at Palomar College (San Marcos). I attended the first meeting and I just found the class is closed due to lack of enrollment… So I guess there goes my appeal out the window. My transfer director had a UCI Admissions Evaluator come to campus to talk about my application. The UCI rep said I would’ve been in for sure if it wasn’t for the Math 10/Psyc 10 mix up. So yup… I’m deciding to stay at my cc and transfer to CSULB in the Spring or just go to UCR. There’s no way I’m putting off an entire year just to go through the UC application cycle again. I’m leaning more towards UCR and submitted my SIR last night. Currently waiting on a reply from my cc transfer director to see if I should still try to appeal UCI’s decision.
@Dannybui9 Hmm… see, now i’m conflicted lol. My counselor brought my case up in a meeting with an articulation officer and transfer director and they’d pretty much told him that in my case, which is pretty identical to yours, that submitting an appeal would give me a pretty good chance of reversing the decision due mostly because I was mislead by my counselor and that my math class mix up was not stipulated in my cc district so there may be a misunderstanding between my school and UCI.
@JPJordan I just asked my CC’s transfer director about still submitting an appeal and she said it’s pointless to do it since I’m under units (58/60). I just wasted 30 bucks emergency ordering all my transcripts I don’t meet that basic requirement, so yeah. What CC district are you in? I go to Irvine Valley College. I was accepted to UCSB and UCR and I was wondering why I was accepted, but rejected to UCI. The UCI Evaluator I spoke with assured me that my decision will not be pulled and they did in fact admit me for some reason. UCSB only gave me 8k in grants, whereas UCR gave me 15.5k. For financial reasons, I’ll be attending UCR. This whole situation is a mess. I’m glad I have this fall back plan though and I don’t have to take a year off.
@dannybui9 Are you actually under units or is that UCI’s count? I’m actually over in terms of units at my CC. Nothing should conflict, but UCI is counting my units their way. Maybe it’s pointless to submit an appeal, but it’s worth a try if my CC transfer director is encouraging me to since he’s apparently seen cases like this. I’m in the LACCD district.
