When is appea decision gonna come out?
my daughter was admitted off the waitlist on 4/22. She appealed the wait list decision before the deadline, but we are not sure if it was the reason she was admitted. Bio Sci major.
@wombat11 We appealed my daughter’s wait list decision and she was admitted on 4/22. Again, we are not sure if it was because of the appeal, but I would have to say yes at this point since I have not heard of people coming off the wait list that did not appeal. On the UCI.edu Appeal page, under the “Appeal to the Selection Decision” it says they will “reevaluate the admission decision”. In our case, we interpreted that as appealing the wait list decision of my daughter. So I’m not sure that the appeal was for only those that were rejected. Anyway, this allowed us to stress her case in more detail (in the letter), and also include two excellent letters of recommendation which could not be included in the initial application process. We sent in the appeal before the April 15th deadline, and her portal status changed a few days later to “Appeal Received, Decision Pending”. I think one other advantage of sending in an appeal, is that your application is brought into the light again and re-reviewed (I was hoping they missed something in the initial review). Not sure what combination of the above managed to get her admitted off the waitlist before the SIR deadline. Maybe none of it did, who knows.
Im also on the waitlist and turned in an appeal, but no news for me yet. It seems I have to SIR and just wait for after May. Anyways your daughter seems like a special case considering how early she was accepted off the waitlist. All I can do is wait now and hope for the best
@TaterCrisps - hang in there. It’s been a very crazy year for UC admission. Lots of talented in-state students wait listed and even rejected. It could be an crazy year for wait list too…mass admittance? Hope so
My daughter already SIR to UCD before we were taken off the waitlist for UCI, Had the UCD housing application submitted, even has potential roommates matched and they have already contacted her. So she was all set for UCD. Now this changes everything. It’s like breaking up with your boyfriend and moving on, only to have him come back again. Just when she was feeling good and excited about moving on to UCD…
Speaking of student housing - UCI said that they do not guarantee housing for anyone taken after the May 1st Housing application deadline. For some students, that’s a deal breaker. Other UC’s say they give an extended deadline to students taken off the wait list to submit your housing application and thus guarantee Freshman on-campus housing. But don’t take my word on this, ask them yourselves to be sure. I asked them via email and that’s what they said.
Has anyone who has been rejected get a notification on their status?
No (not from the appeal).
Do u know when is appeal decision gonna come out?
I think they are done on a case by case basis, not all at once. Looking at some old threads, some people didn’t hear back until July
hi guys. i’m currently a freshman right now and i got off the appeal list last year around the first week of May! i wasn’t on the waitlist.
@burritosgalore what was the basis of your appeal? major? gpa and test score?
@burritosgalore - are you in the dorms? Just wondering what happens to people who get in “late,” in terms of dorm space.
I know dorms are not reserved for the people who got off the waitlist. But is the waitlist released in batches or waves??
@QuinnAsheSona I was diagnosed with this autoimmune disease my senior year of high school. I came in as undeclared, but I’m now going into computer science and bus Econ! Uhh my Gpa wasn’t too high it was like 3.8 unweighted and my sat score was like 1850. Btw I play league too and I mentioned that in my appeal HAHA
@wombat11 I was guaranteed a dorm when I got off appeal but I missed the dorm application deadline since they only gave me like 3 days to SIR and send my application for housing and I didn’t know the housing application was also due LOL. I was put on the dorm waitlist and ended up getting off the waitlist a few days before move in!
Last year, everyone that got off the waitlist or appeal list were guaranteed dorms. The people who got off the waitlist and appeal list came in waves, however once you hear that people got off those lists and yours is still pending for weeks, odds are you didn’t get in. Usually, they save the rejections for last which is terrible but they do it every year
Does anyone know when the batches of decisions come out? The wait is killing me
@burritosgalore It might have been guaranteed last year, but I’m not sure it is this year. UCI Student Housing told me via email that there is no housing application deadline extension given to students admitted off the admissions waitlist after May 1st. “You will be placed on the housing waitlist.” But anyone who is really concerned about this should confirm it yourself with UCI Student Housing, like we did. Don’t take my word for it.
My daughter got an email from UCI housing a couple days ago giving her instructions on how to fill out the housing contract which will arrive in a few weeks. The email said that there is a shortage of Freshman housing and that some Freshman (about 150) will be housed in one of the UCI Apartments (Arroyo Vista) that are for continuing undergrad and graduate students. So there does seem to be a crunch for Freshman housing in Middle Earth and Mesa Court this year.
@overlyworriedparent They said the same thing last year. They’re probably saying that there is a shortage of housing because they don’t want to guarantee anything without being sure that they have housing. Also, there’s the chance that the Mesa Towers might not be finished by next year, which also contributes to why they’re saying there’s a shortage of housing. Last year, students also had to live in CV and AV because of the dorm shortage, but after a bunch of other people and I got off the housing waitlist, we were placed in dorms.
I don’t want to put up anyone’s hopes about getting off the waitlist/appeal and getting a dorm, but I think it’s likely that they’ll give a dorm. Otherwise, there’s a lot of other options such as UTC apartments that are A LOOOOT cheaper than dorms. You lose the dorming experience, but there’s a lot of other opportunities to make friends, such as joining clubs!
@burritosgalore Thanks so much for your feedback! Getting the perspective of someone who had experienced this situation is valuable for incoming students.
For my daughter, the on-campus dorm experience is important. If her appeal was not approved before the SIR deadline like it was, she probably would have kept her SIR to UC Davis and not risk it. But for some students, it’s not a deal breaker and are perfectly fine with any housing in the area. Like you said, there are other ways to make friends. And I’m hoping that after a year of getting that dorm experience, my D and her roommates will want to seek out the “cheaper” apartments. My wallet will be happy if she does
