UCI Appeal Letter suggestions?

So it's quite self explanatory by the given title; I'm appealing to UCI, but I'm stuck as to which topic I should write about.

Should I write about my reasons for not getting as high of a GPA as I would have wanted my sophomore and junior year? (family and personal reasons)

**I'm iffy because I feel like my reason isn't as strong compared to other students who are appealing

OR

Should I write about what I have accomplished since I had turned in my application? (won 1st place in the National PTA Reflection contest and coordinated many events held on campus)

**iffy because I feel like mentioning "accomplishments" won't really get me in because UCs are really strong on academics

ORRRR

Should I just write about both? That's what I did, but I can't seem to fit it all in one page, and I heard that UC admissions don't appreciate a two page long letter.

So I'm stuck on whether I should write on just one topic (and if so, which one?), or if I should just write about both and minimize on details so it can fit on one page....

Thank you! Honest opinion please!

write about both! (: try and give it to a trusted friend etc who can help you revise and get it to one page!
