Hi,
I was rejected from UCI and I appealed a week ago. I was just wondering if theres anything I can do now to help my chances of the appeal going through? By going through I mean coming back with a Yes you can attend UCI.

Here are some quick stats.
1980 Sat
3.55 UC gpa
Applied for physics
Took one AP juniour year
1 honors junior year
1 honors Sophmore year
1 honors Freshman year
5 Aps this year
My senior year gpa of 4.3 raised my average gpa to 3.7
710 physics and 640 math Sat II
I had 2 physics teachers write letters of rec for me.
I got a C in precalc honors 2nd semester junior year.
Ive been in pretty much all the higher ranked classes besides history.

Again real quick is there anything I can after submitting an appeal to help my image for the admissions counselours?

I don't really think you stand a chance at an appeal. Many people with higher SATs and ECs have gotten rejected. I wouldn't waste time feeding yourself a delusion when you can be preparing for the colleges that DID accept you.

Well I've got ecs too. I got eagle scout and I'm in MENSA. I was JSA clUb president, went to Boy's State, participated in Academic Decathlon and Science Olympiad. I figure I have a fair chance of an overturned desicion but to my original question is there a way to somehow make my appeal more likely to come back with a yes? maybe call someone or do something? Im really desperate to make it into UCI.

All I can say is good luck man. I'm also an Eagle Scout that got rejected, but UCI was my reach. If they don't accept you, its their loss, best of luck man.

I got rejected so should I appeal or not? Cause i really thought i had a very good chance of getting in. Also, where can I get the information to appeal?

my gpa second semester junior year was horrible.
3.0 W with 1 AP
but my gpa for first sem senior year was so much better
4.0 W with 1AP, 2 H
which is surprising because i had so much more going on senior year.
so my college counselor said highlighting that improvement would be a good way to go. a whole grade point jump in one semester. also, i'm gonna slip in the fact that i'm gonna be graduating high school at 16 and that i'm working on starting a health club and hosting a health week in school with one other person next month. also reason behind bad grades into good grades is obv that i'm a lot more into my work and am way more motivated and love challenges now. [weak, but this is to support the actual number of the improvement] i've also been in another musical after i applied.

Possibly, i think it really depends on who you're talking to with the admission officer, because when my friend was trying to appeal for ucsd saying that he has an aunt who is mentally ill (thus adding more weight to his financial situation and requiring him to stay in the area) they rejected him.

So if you have a really good reason why you didn't do so well, then go ahead and try!
But keep in mind there's a lot of people with 4.2s trying to appeal also.

oh okay thanks!!
yeah i mean i know everyone in the world can say that "now i'm motivated" but my main reason for appealing would be the actual grade point jump

Hi, I was also rejected to UCI (along with 3 other UC’s) and I am very bothered as to why. I asked people for their opinion, and they all have told me that it was my decision to graduate as a junior. I was wondering if anyone can lend their opinions to what was the probable cause of my rejection, and whether or not i have an appeal case.

Scores:

SAT: 1940
Biology: 620
English: 600

granted these scores aren’t too high, i figured out i wanted to graduate early around September 2008; that gave me 3 months to prepare for the SAT, SAT II’s (since the deadline for testing was December 2008), while completing classes online concurrently with a full schedule (0-7).

My transcript at the time it was due only had my sophmore grades on it and thus I did not have a class rank and my UC GPA was calculated using only 2 semesters. I calculated my UC GPA after the third semester and found it to be 4.37. If i continue to work at the same pace this semester, my final UC GPA will be 4.5.

As far as ECS, i had about 150 hours of community service done between my freshman and sophmore years at a local hospital.

Do i have an appeal case to UCI or any other UC school?
should I consider staying in high school one more year and re-apply to UCI ?

I am extremely confusedd at what i should do

Hello! I was waitlisted for UCI but I was wondering if I could appeal just to ensure a spot (if I get in…) because so far, I’ve been rejected from all of the other 3 UCs I applied to :(.

My stats are:
SAT - 2030
SATII MathII - 720
SATII Bio - 660
I took World History AP (5), US History AP (3), Art History AP (4), and Biology AP (3) from sophomore to junior year and took all of the available honor classes when given the option. Senior year I’m taking 6 AP classes.
My GPA (UW) is 3.73.

For extracurriculars I have a multitude of clubs I was a part of such as Mock Trial, Key Club, CSF, etc… I volunteered from middle school to high school at my local animal shelter and became a part of the foster program there. So overall volunteering hours accumulated to over 350 hours.

Wow jofutofu, I’m surprised you didn’t get accepted. :l I wish you luck in getting in UCI!

I was wondering what you can possibly talk about on your letter of appeal? I asked my school’s counselors if I could appeal to Irvine, and they told me “new and compelling information” means that I can only appeal if, for example, I made a mistake on my application which affected my admission chances; so they won’t give me my 7th semester transcript if I want to appeal simply to ask the college to reconsider my application.

What I don’t understand is that I have over 5 friends who appealed in '09 and they all got in, and it wasn’t because they made mistakes on their applications back in November or had specifically new information they needed to let the college know. One showed me her letter of appeal and it basically emphasized why she believed she was qualified and why the college should reconsider her. I don’t know how I should convince my counselor to let me have my transcript and allow me to appeal.

For my appeal letter, I was thinking of focusing on a specific major (because on my application I was undeclared) and then branching off of that by adding details only UCI has that would help my major. I know this doesn’t necessarily fall in the “new and compelling information” or mistakes, but I think it’s a good way for me to start. My teacher told me the overall message of an appeal from his former student and it was mostly along the same lines as your friend which was why he was qualified and other information on how the school is really great and he wanted to be a part of it.

Not sure if all that above helped, but best of luck to you to!

@goguma: Back in 09, supposedly everyone who was on the waiting list for UCI got in so maybe appeals went the same way? :o

I’m also on the waiting list and wondering if I should appeal.

UC WGPA: 3.84
SAT: 1940
SAT II Math: 700 SAT II Chemistry: 670 (Not too great, I know).
4 on AP Chemistry test
Currently enrolled in 3 AP classes
Current W GPA: 4.33
Clubs like FHA-HERO and Dragon Team. 8 years of piano. 5 years of summer school at Berkeley’s ATDP. 2 prior tutoring jobs. Over 500+ hours community service at the hospital and at school.

I’m also waitlisted to UCSD and UCD Should I sent the same letter of appeal to those two schools as well? Thanks!
