UCI Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@C105213 I received two FA emails from UCI, the first one in February and the recent one on March 4th stating to check my UCI portal, did you guys also get that one? Apparently, there are three levels of funding that students receive from the school, but I have no idea what to make of it.

@pgn1005 what did you find when you checked your portal the second time?
Also, what did the second email say specifically?

@C105213 Important Information About Your 2019-20 Financial Aid Application At UC Irvine. It basically states that the status of my application has been updated and to check ofas.uci.edu. When I logged into the portal, it says I’m eligible for “priority funding” based on information that was submitted.

@pgn1005 that’s exactly what my portal in the financial aid section says when I got the first email. I feel one email from financial aid should be enough for any kind of aid that is available to us.

The priority funding is based on document submission date, isn’t it? As long as you submit everything, you should be considered for “priority funding”.

@jeetusSwo That’s what I thought too, but some people were saying otherwise, as for the confusion. There were some students who submitted everything before the due date but did not receive priority funding, and others who did receive it with a very high EFC.

Has anyone here ever petitioned for independent status who could tell me how it works? I figure it’s different for every school. But I haven’t gotten an estimate because FAFSA says I need more documents. I submitted it in early February and it says processed, but I’m so worried that even if I get accepted no school will give me financial aid. Only UCI has given me some vague idea of what to do (but I’m still lost.) UCSD told me they don’t even have the files I would need to fill out yet. My CC hasn’t really been a huge help either.

Is it something that I would fill out and show documentation for AFTER getting accepted to receive finaid?

If anyone here has petitioned or knows someone who has I would super appreciate some help

Major: Public Health Policy
Secondary Major: Social Policy and Public Service
GPA: 3.68
Pre-Reqs: Taking my last math Class this Spring
IGETC: Done by Spring
TAG: No.
Applied to: UCI, UCD, and UCSD
EC: SI Mentor for Math, Vice President of a Volunteer club, numerous volunteering hours.

Extra: I took a few CS classes cause I was originally a Data Science Major but i realized I didnt want spend the rest of my life on a computer so I switched.

My GPA is lower than I’d like but oh well.

When will they release offer?

Towards the end of April. Last year it was April 30. @fisher316 not sure about TAG applicants though, I believe it’s quite earlier than everyone else.

Berkeley has officially mentioned that they’re gonna release their decision on April 19th
So it should be much earlier this year
I’m thinking they’ll release at about April 5-10

What about for tag applicants?

Based on the past two years, some TAG applicants heard back on March 19/21 and the decisions continued in waves after.

Hey guys, this is what I gathered about decisions and such based on the previous two years.

2018
3/20

The first acceptance posted was on 2:59PM (TAG)
Following a few TAG acceptances, another person got accepted through H2H
**An overwhelming majority of the comments were TAG applicants. There were a few non-TAG applicants. Not all TAG applicants heard back on the first wave. **

2017
3/13

The first acceptance posted was on 8:10PM (TAG)
Following a few TAG acceptances, another person got accepted through H2H
**Same as 2018, the majority of the acceptances were TAG. There were a few non-TAG applicants. Not all TAG applicants heard back on the first wave. **

However, UCI recently posted that they received over 117K total applications which is a 32% jump from 2015. It was #1 for in-state freshmen and #2 for in-state transfers.

Furthermore, UCI had 21.4K transfer applicants in 2018 and 19.5K transfer applicants in 2017. We can assume that the first wave won’t be sent out until the near end of March. I’m going to guess March 26th? Hope this was helpful!

@jeetusSwo
your prediction seems legit based on previous acceptance dates. Let’s keep a track on them.

For example, if I got accepted to UCI through transfer as a Biology major through normal apps. I finish all my major prefers except like one class in a series aka the last class of Ochem:( Would I still be able to transfer and take the last class there?

@bobaislyfe I think ohm888 can help you with this.

@Ohm888

@bobaislyfe the wording on assist seems like you can still get admitted but preference will be given to someone who finished all the required classes. If anything, it doesn’t disqualify you from admissions but it does lower your chances.

Major: Comp Sci
GPA: 3.73
TAG: yes
IGETC: yes will finish in spring 2019
major preq: all finished
Calc I A
Calc II B
Java programming A
C++ programming A
EC’s: Mexico church missions/AFJROTC(elements leader)
local San Diego
ADT Mathematics
have a question about my status
I actually contact and visit UCI several times(call 4 times(2times with my CC transfer center counselor and visit 1 time)
Every time they said are my TAG requirements are completed (I actually showed or read my unofficial transcripts and they said I already fulfill my requirement for TAG comp sci UCI. (have 3 admissions’ name and position to proof that I already finish my requirements, one of them are the supervisor of UCI admission office)

So Should I just feel happy and wait for the TAG decision date? I’m just really scared to not get admit because I actually got rejected in SJSU CSULB (which CSU, since I’m not local nor have ADT comp sci I expect but…oh well…)

Too stressful right now, I spent 3 years to catch up this far (I was a 2.7 GPA in my high school so)
Also, I try to study pythons and other computer programming language to prepare myself in UCI so
Does anyone have an opinion about my status?

@HelloUC2 Honestly you should be fine. The only thing left to do for you is to maintain a 3.4 and finish all the classes you said you will finish.
