Hello!
I am currently committed to UCI as an incoming freshman of fall 2017 for Business Economics. I regret that I decided not apply to UCB nor UCLA when I was applying to college. Now, I really want to transfer into one of them (UC-UC transfer). I have a few questions: 1.) How hard is it for me to transfer to one of them as a Business Economics? 2.) I transfer after two years in UCI right?
People might wonder why I want to transfer. I just want to push myself into one of these schools because they have always been my dream school. Plus their grad business schools are great and I want to start studying in one of them as undergraduate.
Thanks!
Hi there!
I’m also heading to UC Irvine as a fall 2017 freshman (aerospace engineering), and am also thinking about transferring to UCLA.
I’ve searched up some information from UCLA and UC Berkeley’s websites for you to take a look at. I hope you find this useful. (I urge you, however, to ask students/admissions officers at UCLA or UCB, as they are more knowledgeable than I am on this subject matter.)
- On difficulty — hard question to answer. Some things to consider: i. UCLA and UC Berkeley give priority to California community college students, so it’s already harder to pull off an intercampus transfer than it would usually be, and ii. Business Economics appears to be impacted at UCLA, and Economics is also capped at UC Berkeley, so it might be even harder to get in. But it’s not impossible!
Take a look at UCLA’s 2016 transfer admission statistics by major. Note, however, that this should not be completely and absolutely reflective of your chances at admission to the university. https://www.admission.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof16_mjr.htm#SEAS
Transfer students are admitted into UC Berkeley before they can be admitted into their major of choice. You’ll have to apply to Econ during your first semester at Berkeley, should you be accepted.

- The amount of time before you transfer depends on the number of units you start off with at UC Irvine (AP/IB credits? that kind of stuff?) and your subsequent progress in the university. Ensure that after the amount of time, you will be in junior standing (90 quarter units) by the time you go to UCLA or UC Berkeley.
Also instrumental to your admission is the prerequisite coursework for your major. Definitely make sure to complete GE requirements at UCI before transferring, and also see what UCLA and UCB ask of you for your GEs.

Good luck! You can do it!
@tehplanefreak WOW! This is very, very helpful! Thank you so much for answering my questions so specifically! Yep, I guess Bus. Econ is pretty hard to get into at UCLA (11% admittance), but it’s worth a shot. Hope we both can transfer over to UCLA!
