UCI waitlist?!

D just declined UCI’s admission; good luck to those waitlisted…

Wooo! Hope slowly rising haha. What are your guys’ backup if you don’t get in?

Haha, I had hoped I wouldn’t have to disclose this information, but what the heck. My backup is, unfortunately UCR. For some reason Davis rejected me, yet Irvine puts me on their waitlist 0.0. No offense to Riverside, but its just not where I saw myself ending up. Everything is riding on Irvine at this point.

@menestys
i’m in the same boat as you
Come on UCI don’t let us down. haha

Hooray for everyone who chose a different school other than UCI so that we can get a better shot at it now. I’m currently decided between SLO and SB and it’s already a tough enough decision already and I can’t imagine how hard it would be to choose if UCI was thrown into the mix…

I got waitlisted too =/ . A lot of people I know that got into UCI also got into higher schools, so I think we have a chance. My backup is Davis, but I kinda want to go SoCal.

Alright, small spark of hope. I don’t know how many of you are familiar with the website Cappex, but one use of it essentially provides you with detailed information on your chances of getting into specific schools you indicate you are interested in based upon information provided to them by other students (or at least I believe it’s indicated by students). I was looking at an admissions chart for 2011-2012 fall semester for UCI, and as it looks, there are significantly more people who were admitted who no longer wish to attend the campus than there are waitlisters. Now, as I stated before, the information is possibly indicated by students, meaning it wont account for all waitlisters and people who have decided not to attend after their acceptance (just people who use the website), but it definitely makes me feel better about our chances :).

Do you mind posting a link to that chart?

I think the chart is here. This gives me a little hope:

[University of California-Irvine (UC Irvine) in Irvine, California](<a href=“College Search Database: Find Your College Match | Cappex”>College Search Database: Find Your College Match | Cappex)

Hmm, on that chart the admissions rate seems to be too high. (49%) Should be lower than last year’s. And if you only look at the accepted people there are some pretty ridiculous acceptances. SAT avg looks way lower too.

^Yeah, it’s from a few years ago.

This is almost always the case with any university during any admissions cycle. The number of applicants they accept is based on the matriculation rate (the percent of accepted applicants who will ultimately decide to attend.)

For example, if you have a 30% matriculation rate and 4500 spots to fill in the freshman class, then you accept about 15,000 applicants. If the matriculation rate turns out to be lower than expected, then they will take people off the wait-list in order to fill the class.

Now, unless you have a very high matriculation rate or a very large wait-list, it’s pretty likely your wait-list will be smaller than the number of accepted applicants who do not wish to attend.

Oh, and UCI is on the quarter system btw.

That cappex website gives me a little hope :x I was curious of what my chances were and I got in between medium and higher. So, that gives me sort of relief but still. Ahhhh !

Good luck!

I personally know that a lot of seniors (at least 100) got into Irvine and it was their safety, so maybe you’ll get some spots.

*For my friend

He recently accepted to be on the waitlist for UCI, and recieved an email. It says:

Your SIP has been successfully processed.

Be aware that during heavy Website traffic periods it may take several
hours to confirm your SIP status on MyAdmissionsApplication@UCI.

A separate confirmation e-mail will be sent this evening to confirm that
your SIP transmission has been successful.

Confirmation Number: NUMBER

SIP Status

SIP: Participant on Waitlist
SIP Fee: (not applicable)
Pay Method: (not applicable)
SIP Received: 04/10/11
SIP Deadline: 04/15/2011
SIP Form: Online SIP

but he never recieved a serperate email. is that normal?

@KJumpK: I never got a separate e-mail either and I sent it on 3/23 o___O

Oh and does anyone know if my current grades will accept my wait list decision? I’m really paranoid about this because I really want to get into UCI haha.

And my friend visited over spring break and told me that the admissions officers said people off the waiting list are accepted at complete random? o___o…

Complete random you say? So, it’s the luck of the draw? Ohmygoodness. Too bad I exude bad luck.

I will decline my admission to UCI very soon, so hopefully one of you waitlister will be able to take my spot  Good luck!

I will be attending USC’S Marshall School of Business instead!

So sad, they might not even use the waitlist :(

Wait what!? Why not? :o
