UCLA + 40K in debt vs. UCSD and Debt-free

Im looking at Computer Science/Computer Engineering at both places and am still deciding where to attend. I love both schools, but still dunno where to go.

Im saving some ca$h if I go to SD, but I wanted to go to LA as a kid....where do you think I belong?

Dude only you know where you belong, we can’t tell you.
If going to UCLA is worth being $40,000 in debt, then that’s that.
But nobody on this thread is going to tell you go to go UCLA since this is the forum for UCSD.
Make your own choice.

True…I honestly dont mind being at either place. I visited both and love both.
Im just in a serious quandary…

If you love both, and you love 40k, then go to UCSD imo. From my outsider perspective, UCSD CS seems pretty solid.

I know money seems like a huge issue but you honestly have to decide which school provides the best setting for you as well as the difficulties each will provide aside from money.

Only youll know, im sure once you stop thinking about the money itll become clear to you ^^

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-san-diego/897488-ucla-ucsd.html

From your old thread, you said UCLA would be 2k less. Im curious what changed for SD to be 40k less now? Did you get regents or something?

Why why why did you make two threads? I mean there’s only so many responses you can get from random strangers on the internet who don’t know your personality, background, and ability to pay an extra 40k. I know you’re struggling but this is a decision YOU need to make!

I’m officially a UCSD Triton. :)

I would save 40k from living at home and commuting since I dont live too far from UCSD. If I were to stay on campus at UCSD, I would be spending 2k more at SD than I would at LA.

Make sure you join clubs or the greek system cause commuting can be hard for one’s social life! but congratulations, you’ll really like it here :)

congratulations and wish you all the best! :)

save 40000 bucks dude

If you aren’t hurting for money, it’s a real tossup that’ll be determined by non-academic factors. Both are great for CSE.

Live on campus, get some experience outside of home.

Live at home, **** spending all that money. How far to you live anyways. What part of town?

Free home cooked meals are legit.

I’m happy you chose SD but man… commuting is going to be a drag. I’ve made what feels like a few hundred friends just by living in the dorms.

I am still in the mix as to whether or not I should live in the dorms…choices, choices, choices…

BTW, I am from Poway/Carmel Mtn., so west on the 56 and down the 5.

Dorm life is a must for at least a quarter or two… frankly I think it’s worth the money to make friends and have a social life. By all means move back home 2nd-4th years to save money but just to get an initial circle of friends it would be very helpful to live in the dorms.

UCSD. It’s better for Compsci anyways.

I know people who commute from around Carmel Mtn area and it’s not bad at all.

56 is close enough. and the money you save will be amazing for you and your parents. I commute to school (I live a little closer) but I am involved in a sports team and work on campus so I meet a ton of people that way. You can still party on/off campus and just take safe rides / the bus back to your place or sleep @ ur friends dorms. If you are outgoing and motivated its not really a problem.

If your parents are cool and understand that you are in college they wont even care when you come home drunk. A big part is probably the relationship you have with your parents.
