UCLA accepted! maintaining grades..

what about us in the quarter system : (

ya me too! not sure if i should turn in my SIR or wait for my grades. i have a C in one class afraid i might end up with a D :/. so not sure if i should go through with it and see what happens or wonder what will happen if i get a W…aahfdjksfjdf

Usually a B average is sufficient. UCLA is not the most phone-friendly campus, so there would be a bit of guesswork involved in terms of meeting the various admission standard.

Thanks, Ms Sun!

Ms. Sun,
I was wondering if me getting a W is worth taking the chance. I have a C but just worried i might get a D :confused: Trying hard to get that B, though!

Ms. Sun,

What if I got a D in a remedial math course that does not transfer to UCLA? My IGETC for math is already completed (I got an A in Statistics). Will this affect my admission?

@ahk5289, you may be fine even if you have a C as long as your overall GPA is around B-ish. A W may set off alarms, so try to hang in there. Discuss your concern with your instructor and see if there is anything else you can do to raise your grade.

@ecullen, I would encourage your to report it. UCLA will find out sooner or later and it’s to your advantage that they find out sooner since you will have time to negotiate a remedy (if one is required) or make backup plans if the acceptance is revoked. Getting revoked in August (after your final transcript is evaluated) is the worst thing I have ever seen happen to students.

@ahk5289 : I am in a similar situation and called the Admissions Office at UCLA. She told me that as long as I still have at least 60 units, and it isn’t related to my major prereqs or the other math/english/etc classes you’re required to complete before transfer, I should be okay. Also, if you do decide to drop it, definitely report it. I think the website to report changes opens on Monday.

It comes down to weighing your odds I guess. If it’s more likely you’ll get a D or an F, I’d say drop. If you think you can get the C, obviously go for it. Just remember that a D or an F is a huge problem as far as admissions are concerned (almost always worse than a W). And once you get past the date to drop you’ve got no choice but to hang in there.

One upside to dropping, is that you can report the drop NOW and have a response as to your admission decision within 7-10 days. If the worst happens and they rescind your admission in July when you send in your transcripts it may be too late to sign a SIR with another school.

@applej4x: correct, it opens Monday afternoon.

Has anyone been rescinded for getting a D in a remedial course before? This is so nerve-wracking.

my friend got rescinded from UCSD last year for getting a d in a class that he didn’t need, and when I got into SB last year my conditions for acceptance said nothing below a c :frowning: idk though

@shellbelltaylor,

The class I got a D in doesn’t calculate into my GPA though. Did your friend’s course calculate into his or her GPA?

yeah it did so that might be different… I would just call them on monday and see what they say, but if it doesn’t count towards your GPA i wouldn’t worry to much. Good luck!

@shellbelltaylor,

I can’t call them tomorrow? I have to wait until Monday?

If I reported a W on unnecessary class (speech) in winter session on update form on Jan, do I need to reported it again ? I heard that they don’t look at the winter grade in update form…

I have calculated my gpa. And I am going to get 2Bs which may cause my overall gpa dropped by 0.05. The 2Bs are neither major requirement or important classes. They are just two random classes. My admitted gpa is 3.77, do you think it’s fine for 3.72? I was freaking out with this maintaining grades.
I also sent an email to ucla and I told what grade I will get in the two classes.
They just give me this vague reply:

"There is not an exact formula to the exact GPA that you must maintain in order to keep your admission to UCLA. You are asked to maintain the GPA you were admitted with (or as close to it as possible).

Once we receive your official transcripts, we will determine if your grades meet the provisional contract guidelines."

Do you guys think a drop of 0.05 gpa is close to the gpa that i was admitted?
God! I don’t want to “leave” ucla!!!

“maintaining” means not letting it drop a significant amount. it means to keep it in shape. maintaining a 20 year old car doesn’t mean it’ll run like the day it came out of the factory.

a C will not get you rescinded. my friend got straight D’s his second semester of senior year and he wasn’t rescinded

so no one can answer my question??? :(

i’ll put it this way: either you’re way ignorant and stupid and don’t deserve to be going to UCLA, or you’re ■■■■■■■■.
