UCLA Art / Design & Media Open House Invitation

@saracappuccino Agh I don’t wanna get my hopes up tho  It’s WAC, and I’m transfer not freshman

UCLA DMA has been my dream for a long long time. I applied as a junior-level transfer student. I’ve read other discussions from the past about the open house invitation and how it is basically an unofficial acceptance. I’m so worried because I didn’t get an invite  did anyone get an invitation?

Is there a possibility of getting accepted without getting the invitation? ?

@valleygurl8 don’t worry you’re not alone! I’m on the same boat too. I’m a Studio Art applicant and I didn’t get one either. I’ve heard/read that there has been people that got accepted without it. But PERSONALLY (for myself) I’m not expecting much anymore (for myself) since I knew from the beginning it would be a long shot to get in.

@valleygurl8 Desma has been my dream too!! In general, applicants in the arts have gotten in without an invitation, but I’m not sure how many of those were desma. If you feel like your portfolio was strong, then there’s a good chance they’ll accept u!

@adreezybones I’m in the same boat and now I’m just hoping I’ll get into UCSD. I originally wasn’t going to apply to UCLA, but my parents made me and I’m mad at myself for giving myself hope. But Studio Art is slightly less competitive than desma (at 11% acceptance lol) so you have a much better chance than me!!

@sarcappuccino it was never in the cards honestly until I saw the statistics about the transfer GPA of people who could get in and it was only late last year that i decided to apply. Should I dont get in, I could always say that atleast I tried. Another reason why I applied is because the lady at the transfer center advised me to apply to more UCs because they offer more money in terms of grants/scholarships.

@adreezybones I have a 3.9 and the admit range was 3.38-3.7 last year, but that doesn’t help much because that just tells me they focus on the portfolios and I have very low confidence in mine. And same, everyone kept telling me that I have to at least try, but I tend to take any sort of rejections/“failures” personally haha. One major thing that LA has over SD is that I have family in LA and I’ve never set foot in SD so I don’t know anyone there. It’d be a major plus to get accepted to UCLA so it’d be an easier transition moving 2,000 miles away to a diff state. But good luck to you and fingers crossed that you’ll get in!!!

Anyone go today?

@chlotaylor I went. Were you there?

Yup

Were there a lot of art transfers?

@adreezybones no

@adreezybones I met one transfer student, but I didn’t really get the chance to talk to a many people. but yeah seemed like there prob weren’t a lot of transfer students there.

I hope there’s still room for non-invited transfers. :frowning:

Were you guys told anything about the decision date?

I wish I did more research on the acceptance rates for the different art majors because I’m really kicking myself in the shin for picking one of the most selective ones lol but good luck to everyone!! So anxious to officially get my rejection letter so I can finally relax haha

@sarcappuccino right now I’m starting for the realistic scenario which is me going to CSULB to temper the expectations and lessen the disappointment. But life if more than welcome to throw me a curveball. Lol

@HeyItsNick I was told at the open house that decisions would be released on the 24th.

@adreezybones yea I’m like 99.9% positive I’m going to SDSU which isn’t a terrible school, but it isn’t on the same level as UCLA’s desma program. If you end up going to CSULB, good luck there and congrats on that acceptance!!
