UCLA & CAL Admitted Students

What is CAL?

Cal = UCB
10 char

lawl^^

but it is understandable…ppl think it is Cal Tech, Cal Poly/Pam…some oldies think it is UCSF b/c they used to be one school some time ago…

completely torn. accepted cal fall 09 and ucla. no use debating everything here. it’s time to think very hard…

Hmm…UC Berkeley economics or UCLA pre-business economics? I will stay in West Valley community college :)

I got into both schools as well, very torn.
English Major is #1 at Cal, very traditional at LA.
ahhh, what to do… will depend on the fin aid if Cal ever decides to let me see it.

I got into both as well. So rad. (: “Miss Yujin’s getting broccoli?” No kids, I got into Berkeley x)

English major…

UCLA is too close to home. >:(
UCB has too many Asians.

Cal.

I’m math major, and Cal is the only school that doesnt force students to make a choice

between Applied/pure math.

lolwut.

Haha, but really, I think both LA and Berkeley are tied in terms of Asians. At LA, if you don’t see them at the school, they’ll be everywhere else.

Going back to the actual thread, though, I’m not even close to being sure of which school I want to go to. It isn’t just between LA and Berkeley either. I’m seriously also considering Santa Barbara and San Diego, as both schools have their own draws. I actually like the sound of SB’s English program even if it doesn’t have the prestige of Berkeley or LA, and San Diego just seems like a great place. Plus, I have tons of friend there.

It’s a hard decision for me, really.

I think I’m going to go on a college tour in the middle of May to get a better feel for each campus, then decide after that. It’ll be fun.

I’m closer to Cal, I really like UCLA though :frowning: ugh

I’m closer to UCLA. Which is practically the only thing I don’t like about it.

i got into ucla but i got into cal for spring semester and like many others on this thread, i am extremely conflicted. ucla has been my dream school for two years now so i didn’t bother finishing cal’s pre-reqs and hence didn’t expect an acceptance. now that i actually got in, it changes everything. i don’t know what to do but i really want to start school in the fall :/

I, too, got into both for English. I’ve lived in Southern California my whole life, and I’m very anxious to get away—my heart belongs to Berkeley.

hey chibi loopi, by any chance is that “staff writer for newspaper” mr fong’s asian newspaper thing? how are you HS class of '08 and already transferring?

@vmason… I can see why everyone else is torn, but seriously for you there really shouldn’t be a question, there is no way I would turn down Haas for UCLA

luvtoolearn-

Really? I understand Haas is prestigious and all, but I feel like it’s going to push me in a direction academically and professionally that I’m not sure I want to go, as in finance, wall street, and the like. I’m not sure if I should sacrifice a major at UCLA that seems like a better fit for me personally just because I want the “Haas” name. It is tempting though.

Same here… I got into Berkeley and UCLA (and UCD and UCSC). I always wanted to go to Berkeley, but I’m kind of scared of the housing situation and bureaucracy there. I was admitted to UCLA as a Regent’s scholar, so I would be able to bypass a lot of the bureaucratic bs of a large state university.

I also don’t know about housing at Cal. I always wanted to live on campus, but I’m not sure anymore. Even though Cal technically “guarantees” on-campus housing for students, it seems that you never get your first choice and may be put somewhere you don’t want to be. I’m not sure I want to live in a small room with two other people (who may be much younger than me, I’m 23)! So, that leaves off campus housing… which I guess is OK. At UCLA I could have my pick of housing because I think Regent’s scholars get housing priority…

I love the atmosphere at Cal, though. I love being able to walk around as opposed to drive everywhere… I would have to get a car in LA. Aaaagh!

I’m seriously leaning toward Berkeley.

Besides, I’ve lived in SoCal for 7 years, which is the longest I’ve ever lived in any one place. Time to move on. :P

I’m in the exact same situation as seouljah–English major, closer to Cal, but . . . feeling UCLA’s pull.

I’m really not excited at the prospect of dealing with Cal’s housing either.

I think because UCLA decisions came out first, I had over a week to picture myself at UCLA. I was excited about living in a plaza. I was excited about good dorm food. I was excited about seeing LA. And now I’m really surprised not to find myself as excited about Cal, which up to now was my undisputed dream school.

Iildimsum7,
WHOA. are you in my class? lol

no, i wrote for the skyline student newspaper for a semester.

My current predicament is as follows - my father has really been pushing for CAL. I am the only one in my family to ever been accepted into CAL. Of course, this is huge in my father’s eyes as well as the prestige factor. I know for a fact that if I chose CAL, my ego would be set. But… I think I’ll be more happier at UCLA since i love the social aspect more, awesome weather, there are less nerdy-asians, the campus is nicer, and it’s nice and far away. I honestly dont know though…
