I was waitlisted then rejected from UCLA last month and I just want to say that no matter how excellent your ECs and essays are, your SAT (or ACT), GPA and SAT2s are going to matter so much more. Trust me on this. Because there are innumerable applicants trying to get into UCLA, the school first cuts people off based on their test scores and gpa, and they most likely don’t even look at the ECs, unlike the ivies and other private colleges. So please please try your best to improve your SAT or ACT scores instead of doing another meaningless volunteer shift.
@peppermint0103 I’m sorry that you didn’t get the result you wanted. Yes it’s true that academic performance is the most important part of the UC app. It’s listed that academics is the most important part of the augmented review. However it is very important to be involved in extra curriculars. It is not worthless to help the community or be involved in things you are passionate about. That attitude you have seems to show that you only volunteered to have it on your app to get in. The UC readers can pick out resume padding from a mile away.
To future applicants: My advice is always put academics as a high priority but be involved in things you are passionate about. I wasn’t involved in a wide range of activities rather I volunteered in community service I was passionate about and played sports that I loved. Passion is key. Good luck.
Rejected… but congrats on everyone who got in.

Congrats on UCLA! If you are still out here, can you give me some advice on reporting of the Physics Bowl. I’m also in Southern California and our team placed second in the region. On the common application, is this reported as a regional or national award? Thx.
Daughter just received email about housing for the fall. She says it keeps crashing. Anyone else get it to load?
No, same here. Keeps on crashing.
Thanks @Totoros.
@sandiegodad2017 @Totoros For things like this, the portals always crash.
