Is anyone here going to join a club(s) at UCLA?
If so, which one(s)?

Just the two I did last year. No time for anything else.

/AdTeam and UCA.

what are they allie

^.

AdTeam and UCA.

AdTeam is officially the UCLA Advertising and Marketing Team. Spend a year developing a creative and original ad campaign for a corporate sponsor and then compete in the spring against other schools. Winning team's campaign is rolled out nationally.

UCA is just the Undergraduate Communications Association. They do networking nights and stuff like that.

did they get you the internship in WeHo

Nope.

That was Craigslist style.

Is it a good idea to do internships through UCLA or just find them on your own like on Craigslist?

Hmmm, where is a Dairy Queen around the West LA area?

There aren't any. Well, there's one in the Century City mall, I think. But that's it.

And it doesn't really matter where you find internships as long as you find them.

First of all, allie you are a girl, right?

Second, is there a deadline to join clubs?
Most likely, each club has a different deadline.
Is there a website that lists all of the possible clubs available?

www.studentgroups.ucla.edu You might want to check out http://www.recreation.ucla.edu, esp. if you're interested in dance, martial arts, or sports.

Just a plug even though I'm not a member yet.

JOIN CIRCLE K!!! It's a community service oriented club with some really awesome people. If you know Key Club from High School, it's essentially the college version but wayyy better.

http://www.studentgroups.ucla.edu/circlek

Lol, yes I'm a girl?

(I have a facebook link in profile, fyi. If you want to be sure).

And it just depends on the club. Some have deadlines and restrictions (especially for team-like clubs), some are just general membership.

I was in the Student Committee for the Arts (SCA) last year http://www.sca.ucla.edu and had a blast. It's the student division of UCLAlive, but we have our own huge budget and we work together to put on shows (music, theater, comedy, dance, arts...etc.) that we like or think the student population would like. Most of the shows that we do put on are free to students and are in huge venues like Royce Hall, Sunset Amphitheater, AGB...etc. Totally recommend it. Applications should be available online and you'll see recruitment posters around campus as well :)

orangepie-

im actually really interested in that! im doing a lot of internships right now in the music industry and want to get into producing concerts and artist management. think this will be good experience? how much time commitment does it require, and can u tell me anymore details about it? (i did check out the website)

yermama- i think SCA would be perfect for anyone interested in producing shows. SCA definitely welcomes people with experience in producing/theater/artist management...etc. you get to see what it's really like to plan, budget, market, and put on a show. the best part is, the committee gets to decide who and what to present. the group has people from all years (freshmen to grad students), different majors and interests. we have one advisor (who is super nice). Meetings are once a week on Mondays and usually last anywhere from 1.5-2 hours - very rarely 3 hours. And if you're planning an upcoming event, more meetings will happen during the week. It's definitely a commitment, you can't bail in the middle of the year. But once you attend one of your OWN sold out shows - it's totally worth it.

edit: added perk - free tickets to royce hall shows every quarter :)

aw shoot...monday is the worst day...is it possible to join next quarter or is it a yearly commitment :(

They're monday night meetings, and unless you have a late late class...it shouldn't be a problem. Or if you have work conflicts, you can work it out with the co-chairs or advisor. it's a yearly commitment. hope you'll still apply though!

sorry to kind of ruin this thread, but last question! can you tell me what time on monday nights? its my one day of no class so i go to my internship until about 6...

it's monday nights at 6:30 but most people show up at 6:00 for dinner before the mtg starts. i know people who have internships/classes until 6:30 or 7 - they just show up late and it's fine.

Anyone else?
