Hi, if anyone who applied CSE or even CS to UCLA could post their decision(Accept/Reject/Waitlis), GPA (major GPA also helps), and whether prereqs were completed, I would appreciate it. I just want to get a feel of what GPAs made the cut to see if its worth it to appeal my rejection or not. It would also help future applicants as Computer Science in general is one of the most impacted and popular majors.I’ll get started:
GPA: 3.78 to 3.8, Major GPA in prereqs: 3.85, Prereqs: Done by Spring. Decision: Rejected for CSE.
UC GPA 3.6~ i don’t remember exactly
3.90 major GPA
Prereqs required for admissions: Done
additional prereqs for major: missing 1 will be done by spring
Rejected from UCSD
Accepted: UCI for EE and UCLA for CSE (to my surprise) I thought i was going to be an anteater.
UC GPA 4.0
Prereqs required for admission: done
Rejected from UCLA
Accepted: UCI for CS and UCSD for CSE,
cranshed
Overall GPA: 3.96
Major GPA: 4.0
Complete all the classes I need for literally all UCs
IGTEC completed (although not a requirement, I would say still important to some extent)
Accepted: UCI for CS, UCSD for CS, UCSB for CS, UCLA for CSE.
I would say if you complete all the classes(finish it earlier, sometimes too much major re-reqs classes in the last spring semester will cause the rejection) and maintain nearly 4.0 GPA
You are basically in
Overall GPA: 4.0
Pre-Reqs: All complete
Applied: UCD, UCSD, UCLA, UCB
Accepted: UC Davis (CS), UCSD (CS), UCLA (CSE)
Pending: UCB
Overall GPA: 4.0
Pre-reqs: Complete
Accepted: UCI (CS), UCSD (CS), UCSC (CS)
Rejected: UCLA (CSE)
Pending: UCB, GT
@suenos53 sorry to hear that, did you have prereqs complete?
I think I did so I’m disappointed. Maybe there is just a lot of competition. I would be the first from my cc to get into CSE at UCLA.
My second physics course I’m completing this spring so maybe that could be it?
@suenos53 well I hope you got in Berkeley. I saw you ask me about UCSD’s CS program, and if you didn’t get in Cal, I highly recommend you come to SD. We have a great program, often ranked top 10-15 in the country, and its fast rising, as the CS department is trying to get it top 5 within the next 10-15 years. There’s a wide array of classes taught by awesome professors, (I haven’t had a single bad professor in any of my CS classes thus far, same can’t be said about other departments). Job Prospects and Recruiting are amazing too. Top companies recruit here all the time and we have numerous career fairs, including two major ones (DeCAF during winter quarter, and the Fall Career fair).

Here is a sample of where kids are interning/working this Summer. The list is nowhere near exhaustive, but it gives you an idea.
@UCLAorUCBTRNSFR Thanks so much! I am definitely going to the Transfer Triton Day next Saturday. UCSD is sounding pretty good and I look forward to the tours. I got into 6th and it looks like the requirements aren’t too bad. I will be asking lots of questions. Glad the internships are not too hard to come by - I was worried about that. So are you at San Diego right now and transferring out?
@suenos53 that was most likely it. UCLA is pretty damn strict when it comes to the courses listed under the “The following courses are REQUIRED for admission to this major” So much so that if you look at assist.org they’ve got that sentence in bold, capitalized the “REQUIRED” bit and have it underlined.
@JC2017 I thought we were allowed to finish all prerequisites this spring but maybe they took students who finished them at the end of fall. It was something I did or didn’t do anyway, lol.
@suenos53 Don’t you need all three physics courses?
@JC2017 I just looked at the Assist.org. I think you are right. I got confused because it looked like my two CC courses fulfillled the requirement. I feel better now. Good luck at UCLA!
@suenos53 Yep,good luck next year!
@JC2017 I think I’ll go to UCSD - got into CSE and the program looks great. Either that or Georgia Tech, where I’m waiting for the June 15th release of acceptance date.
@UCLAorUCBTRNSFR Can you tell me about UCSD and the CSE department? Are the students collaborative? Or is it more of a competitive environment?
@suenos53 just saw your post. I would say it is collaborative, most people want to work together and help each other out, and its pretty easy to meet people. Most CS classes aren’t graded on a curve, but rather are graded simply on number of points (typically 90 or 93 for an A), so there’s actually a benefit in working with each other, and leads to a more collaborative atmosphere.
