i just checked that UCLA requires calc 1 and calc 2, so my problem is I will have everything done by spring except calc 2!!! is that an automatic rejection if i dont have calc 2 class done before spring smester? there is no way i will be able to complete calc 2 in time because im taking precalc this fall and calc 1 spring semester. my gpa is 3.7 tap certified and igetc completed with several EC like student gov, honor society etc. so should i even not bother applying? :(

try to find any community college that offers it either as short session or intersession. You can appeal your decision if you are accepted and i’ve read that someone here said they knew people who were accepted who were allowed to take calc 2 over the summer. i’m not sure if the person was making stuff up, but if you search for posts by peppamint? i think thats the name, you could ask her

you’re so lucky your school has TAP though

You need to have your pre-reqs done before transfer. They’ll for sure let you finish some in the winter and spring sessions, but not the summer (at least for UCLA).

You should really take Calculus I over some kind of Winter Intersession. I did it, it’s doable, but expect to be doing homework and studying for at least a couple hours every night. I got an A and I’m horrible at math.

You have a pretty high GPA and you’re TAP certified, so I suggest just roughing it out for ~6 weeks and take it during the winter. PCC has a winter intersession (unless they JUST canceled it due to budget cuts), if you’re in the area.

my community college has the semester system so its only fall and spring and wouldn’t i have to finish calc 1 before i go on to calc2? i am barely taking pre calc this semester

No it doesnt matter if its semester. There is still a winter intersession. Its that long break you have for christmas. Only now instead of opening presents, you will be opening your calc book so you can take calc 2 in spring :)

Socal, I was in the same boat as you. I was going to have to take Pre-Calc in the Fall then Calc 1 in the Spring. Not having Calc 2 done by spring 2010 would just about kill any chances of getting accepted. So, I ended taking a placement exam at a different CC and placing into Calc 1. Now I’m just skipping Pre-Calc and taking Calc 1 this semester. I don’t know how comfortable you are with math, but it’s always an option.

ya im glad im taking calc 1 this fall so i can take calc 2 in the spring
