Avoid private loans, if possible. Income Based Repayment Plan by government currently only applies to federal loans. For more information:

I got my full cal grant, btw.

do you guys have any ideas about which lenders are best to pick? i’m going to research it a bit more, but I’m curious if anyone has any first-hand experience. does it even make any sort of difference?

I’m confused, I was offered the scholarship recognition award in my EPAL (not a government related one) but it is not showing up in my EFAN. It’s part of the reason why I chose UCLA.

Did they decide to change their mind and not give it to me anymore?

yeah, med, they lowered mine by 800 dollars. it’s so bizarre considering they sent me a letter about the original amount and all… I’m so sorry that was a reason why you picked the school, that sucks major =(

I’m looking for a reason why this was done. So far I haven’t found anything yet. If anyone does, please post the link. I think I ended up with more money from the gov. so that’s why they lowered mine.

Questions: On my efan, i submitted the change from on campus to off campus. then they lowered mine about 1k… but on the “initial aid offer” page, there’s a decision column, mine says undecided, do u guys have any ideas about that? wut should i do in order to accept the offer.

sopheee, well i guessed they cut my cal grant then…

Sophie,
My sister got her student loans with Citibank and has had problems with them. They don’t communicate well (with my sister or even within the company), and generally have bad customer service. They screwed up a few things and were less than helpful with solving the problems they created.
I financed my car through Wells Fargo. They were very helpful, so I selected them as my lender. I don’t know how they are with student loans, but if they’re as helpful as they were with the car loan, they’re probably a good choice.
I tried to finance through Washington Mutual before I tried Wells Fargo and they were a royal pain in the ass. I bought a 5 year old car and went through the entire loan process painlessly, until the end when they called the corporate office to finalize everything… and we all learned they only finance cars 4 years old or newer.
I don’t know if they’re better now that they’re Chase, but I doubt it.

oh, laaaate, stacy. i’m sorry, i wasn’t trying to make light of the situation, i guess i got lucky.

thanks b-mop. I chose discover, because they didn’t have any originating (if I’m saying that correctly) fees. You know, funny enough, I was weary of citi because I had vague memories of hearing bad things about them.

i chose wells fargo because theyre one of the banks that has a low interest rate, and also i heard good things about their customer service as well :)

I picked discover student loans because it doesn’t charge a fee. if you log onto your efan, on the right column click on Stafford Lender List they will tell you more about the lender.

I too chose well fargo, although citi was my second choice since they’ve been very very very generous with my credit card lines, and my interest rates for credit card has been below all the other rests including chase and bank of america.
i heard wells fargo was one of the few banks to not be as screwed up as b of a or citi, so opted for wells fargo. might not be a good reason, but i like the idea of wells fargo, especially if in the future i can just go in person and pay my bill(if i wanted to, same thing with citi).

for those of you who chose discover, did you just mail in the MPN from their website or did you find a link for an electronic one?
