@jedenic I’m a pre-psych major also doing a one year transfer! I also have chem in progress, I’ll be done this Winter quarter. UCLA and UCI are also my tops. Lol it’s pretty rare to find other one year transfers especially ones so similar to me. You definitely have a good chance with a 4.0, the only things that might be a problem is the chem pre-req but as they say, leaving one for spring is generally okay.
Anyone here actually an Art Major applicant?
I’m an art major (digital media) but my chance of getting accepted is really low since I’m an out of state transfer. I got into all of the CSUs I applied to and it’s killing me that the UCs take so long because good off-campus housing/apartment options are going to be scarce by the time I hear back (if I get denied from UCLA and UCSD, I’ll be going to SDSU).
I’m a fine art major @sarcappuccino but yeah, I also think UCLA art is a long shot for me but it’s always worth the try. I already got accepted to my “realistic” top choice which is CSULB but if ever I get into UCLA, I’ll definitely go to UCLA.
If I may ask, what’s your portfolio composed of?
Since I’m applying for their digital media arts program, my portfolio was mostly comprised of some graphic design work (editorial spreads, book designs, some interesting photoshoots I did, etc). I also just got recognized for my work, but it’s too late to add the awards to my résumé :(.
What kind of work did you add into your portfolio? Mine was kind of done last minute and I’m nervous that it isn’t good enough.
Mine was just mostly some works I had from my art classes and a few personal artworks. Half of it are kinda technical while some are kinda conceptual. I was trying to get an additional artwork for my portfolio but couldn’t make it in time as well. I’m not that decorated in terms of awards and exhibitions though. @sarcappuccino
And best of luck to you!
I think adding in both technical and conceptual works would showcase your style/skills well. And thanks, you too!!
Question: if your missing a required class such as precalc, can u still take it by summer or should it be done by spring?
@Arki709 I believe all required classes must be completed by the end of spring semester
@npound Oh wow it’s nice learning about someone else in a similar situation! I’m not too worried about the Chem pre-req, it is what it is.
Did you also get an email titled “Your UC Application, Immediate Response Requested” that asked when you will receive your Winter 2019 final grades? I got it on Feb 11th, replied immediately, then updated my grades when I said I would.
I haven’t seen anyone else post about it so I am wondering if it may have to do with the fact that I’m a one-year.
@jedenic They have sent out some immediate response requested emails (mine was about a transcript) but not all students receive them. It’s not a bad thing, though! At least you know they are looking at your application!
@HeyItsNick Wait I haven’t gotten one but I really feel like I should because I’m also a one year and I have a missing pre-req. Is it a bad sign like they kinda dismissed my application already?
@jedenic I haven’t gotten one and I’m honestly rlly worrying about it. Feels like they’re dismissing my application especially because I have a missing pre-req and I’m a one year transfer. Are you on the quarter system? My winter quarter ends March 29, maybe I’ll get an email closer to that date? I don’t know honestly and I’m pretty worried about it.
@HeyItsNick True! They did say in the email that they needed the information before they can reach a decision.
@npound I wouldn’t worry too much since your pre-req will be completed by the end of Spring, which is what they ask for. I’m on a semester system. Maybe they didn’t ask because your quarter ends late. I talked to a counselor recently and he said that admission officers are probably finishing up or done with reviewing applications at this point of time. He also told me that whether they take into account winter grades is uncertain because some schools finish earlier and some later so it might not be fair to those students who end later.
I speculate that they requested the information from me because my semester ended only two weeks after the TAU priority deadline. The most you can do now is finish strong and keep an eye out for emails
@Collegegirlie7 heeey girl! I’m neither of those majors but something similar! I’m doing European studies so i thought our requirements would be along the same lines. I cant find anyone with a similar major so let’s chat hahaha. I’m here if you have any questions!
Hey everyone! This is my first post and I was wondering if you guys could chance me. Just so you guys know, I’m trying to transfer in one year. I had 16 units done (took some cc courses while in high school), prior to starting my first college semester this fall. This past fall, I took 15 transferable units. So that is 31 transferable units. This winter I took 10 transferable units and I updated them in my TAU. So that is 41 transferable units. So basically what UCLA sees is 41 units total of grades. I received A’s in all my classes so far. I’m taking 20 units right now, so I will have 61 units by the end of spring. Could you please chance me?
I also feel like the fact that they have yet to see 19 of my 60 required units, that they will look down upon that and I feel like it may hurt my chances. What do you guys think? Here are my stats:
Community College Transfer (El Camino College)
Major: Sociology
GPA: 4.0
PREREQ: done (finished in winter)
Igetc: done by Spring
Tap: No (this is what worries me. I feel like not having TAP is going to hurt me)
EC: volunteered at the hospital, homeless humanitarian day, youth leader at mosque, honor roll, charter school fundraising organizer.
@RoastedHamm TONS of people don’t do TAP, because only certain community colleges allow it: http://www.admission.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_tr/ADM_CCO/tap.htm (mine doesn’t)
Also, you look really good with your GPA (most important) and pre-reqs completed (other most important part), you can try and chance yourself based off of these stats: https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major – 35% of sociology applicants get accepted with a GPA of about 3.7, I say you have a great shot
@90smix Thanks so much for the feedback!!!
@Princetonian9 Thats awesome! and yes if I think of any questions ill hit you up!
Anyone elses major not showing up in the portal?
