@sagaciousforever No, I transferred from American U to a CC and now am waiting for decisions. It sucks how strict the UCs are about pre-reqs in general even for CC students. I hope you hear some good news soon, keep your head up!
@sagaciousforever I still hope you get in though! Praying for a miracle for you as well. Wishing you the best!
Did you not like American U?
@bruins8clap No. I would stay at Pepperdine unless I get into USC/UCLA/UCB/Emory.
I applied to UCSD and UCI just to see if I can get in. If I manage to get in, this shows my academic capability and I will be proud of that proving my academic improvement because I have a relatively low high GPA.
I simply want to be proud of myself.
Also, honestly how do you view Pepperdine in terms of rigor and prestige?
@HeyItsNick American University is also decent, and I have a professor who also teaches there.
I personally now give my preference to private schools for better resources, a stronger alumni network, and less competition.
@sagaciousforever you have 0 chance for ucla without that calc 2 pre req. hate to break it to you, but the majority of applicants will either have had that completed or in the process. They will be considered and your application will most likely have been put to the side or tossed for incompletion of pre reqs for ucla bus econ
Good luck still!
@haasbear It’s fine since I know this a while ago. Do I have a chance for “Econ”? I put “Econ” as my second choice.
What about other UCs since I’ve checked that UCs other than UCLA are more lenient on pre-reqs? I found transfers from the past few years getting accepted without Cal 2 done.
UCSD is way more lenient! I’ve seen past threads of people getting in for Econ w/o all pre reqs done. @sagaciousforever
UCI on the other hand is getting way more competitive. Not sure what major you applied for at UCI, but if it was bus admin probably super low chance to no chance. Possibly though for Econ or bus econ, less impacted but still popular.
@CalBear1998 I applied to UCSD for International Business and UCI for BA and Business Economics.
It’s sarcastic that I am even scared of hearing back from schools that are similar to Pepperdine in terms of tier/ranking/prestige.
@CalBear1998 Are those people who got into UCSD missing one or two pre-reqs? I am assuming no more than two.
@sagaciousforever generally calc 3.
I’ve seen one get in w/ only calc 1 though, but that’s really pushing it imho. For Econ I mean, idk about international bus.
Econ at ucsd is quantitative a f
@CalBear1998 I am kind of salty now since I got an “A” in Business Calculus, which covers multivariable Calculus content. I also got “A” in all quantitative business classes such as Statistics and Financial Accounting. Are those not enough to prove that I am strong or at least decent in Math?
USC and Pepperdine’s Business Calculus covers a lot of content from Calculus 2.
@CalBear1998 I see! Hopefully, I still have a good shot for UCSD and for UCB/UCLA if miracles happen.
I wouldn’t know haha not an admissions officer, but if they aren’t transferable to a UC then I would presume they are no good.
Missing a pre req is usually the issue with many of the 4.0 applicants in past threads with amazing stats. For example, programs like haas at UCB there are 1800 applicants, but only 760 something are actually elibable which was stated on their website. Most likely for a missing pre req or whatever reason @sagaciousforever
@CalBear1998 That’s why I prefer private schools such as USC and Emory now. They do not just automatically disqualify you for missing a pre-req. If I am from a CC, I would finish everything. Applying from a 4-year makes it way harder to take the right classes. Even if I want, some classes will not transfer. So I have to take it/them at a local community college, which could be very troublesome and time-consuming.
With that being said, even if I am missing pre-req, I still have a slim chance for UCLA and UCB. I am just wondering why can’t they allow us to take the missing class/classes later? People will pay more tuition for delayed (maybe) graduation.
I am just saying that UCs should consider applicants based on essays and overall academic standing more. Missing one or two pre-reqs is actually not that important. They should spot the best applicant who will fit and strive instead of just caring so much about the classes they took. You could always take more classes before graduation so why not be more flexible?
@sagaciousforever You have 0 chance for ucla/ucb if you applied to bizecon at ucla and Econ I’m assuming at Cal. These are really impacted majors. Pre reqs are extremely important and wouldn’t make sense to allow an exception because there would be way too many applicants considering the amount they get each application season. Community college applicants get priority because if you think about it there’s nowhere else left for them to go, while non cc kids are already at a 4 year uni and as much as it sucks it’s how the system works
I am sorry for being a little bit too salty. Anyways, I wish everyone here good luck!
We will see my results for UCSD and UCI if UCLA and UCB just don’t work out. Time to find out if I still have a chance.
@haasbear I applied to UCB HAAS. My current track is Business Administration so why would I apply for pure Econ? BA and Econ are quite different. Also, are you saying that I have a chance for UCSD and UCI?
@sagaciousforever oh then well if you applied to haas thats like 0% chance for sure then. I went to envision haas and they stressed completion of pre reqs as a must. That’s auto reject. You’ll be a part of the non eligible applicants.
I thought you applied to econ bc you didn’t apply for bus admin at uci? Lol
Not sure for schools like ucsd/uci. I have nothing to say about those schools not too familiar w/ them in terms of missing pre reqs
@haasbear We will find out soon.
But yes, I should have applied to more private school as they are way more lenient on pre-reqs. I did two so hoping for the best.
