I'm planning to follow the med/pharm track at UCLA. I qualify for the Honors program. Is it worth being part of the program? Will it help me get into good pharm/med school on top of my own merits? What are the pluses and minuses to the program? I've read the website but I want to know a more of a student outlook on it.

No (10 char)

Why? I’ve heard mixed opinions.

Everywhere that I’ve read described the Honors Program as just a little notation on your transcripts. It’s a bit of work to make sure you take enough qualifying honors classes, while the perks are close to none. You don’t really get anything besides that little notation.

Nobody even really talks about it on campus anyways. It’s easy to forget that we have an honors program.

I’m not too sure , and I dont qualify (4.07 GPA grrrrrrrrr…), but I’ve heard mixed responses. One of my teachers (she’s an alumni) said it was nice for expanding her breadth of knowledge and just thinking in general, but I’ve also heard that it’s just extra, unnecessary stress.

Nobody will care if you are in the Honors Program or not. If you want to give yourself more work, then you can apply. I’ve taken Honors Collegium courses and courses with Honors Content without ever applying to be in the Program. It doesn’t matter.

For Cantopride, the time that your teacher was in the Honors Program to now was probably enough for it to have changed and been stripped of most of the perks. Additionally, you can give yourself more breadth by taking other courses (in addition to your GE courses) out of interest, not because your Honors Program tells you to.

no, it is definitely not worth it. i was in the program my first year and i said **** it after that. really, really, really isn’t worth it because i can’t think of any perks i got from it
