I really want to major in Business with focus in Economics but I do not know which school to go to if I get accepted into both UCLA and NYU. I want to get into UCLA College of Letters and Sciences, and NYU Stern. I come from a U.S. territory, an island in the Pacific, and I am very interested in going to NYU Stern to major in Business/Economics or UCLA for it's Economics program. Here are my questions:

Which one is more selective when it comes to OOS applicants?
Which one has a better Economics program?

I also have more family in California, so that's why I'm leaning more towards UCLA, but I really do want to get into NYU Stern because it is a DREAM, and literally everything that I want in a school. I have done a bit of research on Stern Econ and I LOVE it. I do not see a lot on UCLA Econ.

both are strong, but NYU Econ is higher ranked than UCLA (at least for grad school). NYU is top 10, while UCLA is ~35.

Note however, that the NYU ranking for Econ might be for its version of L&S, and not Stern.

Can you afford either? UCLA does not really provide merit money, and NYU only provides $$ to students with really high numbers. Most others pay sticker.

be sure to look into tuition if money is a concern. The UC schools are very picky on who gets in-state rates and simply living in CA is seldom going to be enough. There are lots of clauses and so on, I’m not saying whether you will or will not be considered a resident. But its definitely something you may want to look at. The UCs do not provide any financial aid for the OOS tuition charge.

No bluebayou, I cannot afford either. I was thinking of getting loans or trying to get scholarships though. True! Thank you so much!

Thanks mikemac, I have looked into that! As of right now, my best choice would be to go to a community college and finish two years there, then apply at UC/hopefully NYU Stern.

if you want biz, also consider USC-Marshall, which is transfer-friendly. Also, Cornell AEM. Both offer decent financial aid.
