UCLA Likely letter..?

We have received your application to UCLA’s Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science (HSSEAS). Your application is among those which I consider highly competitive. However, it is still too soon for admission decisions to be announced. To learn of the official decision, check the Undergraduate Admissions and Relations with Schools (UARS) website Admission Decisions - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions in mid-to-late March. You will receive an email from UARS when decisions are available online.

The purpose of this letter is to make you aware of an important event for applicants interested in learning more about the wonderful educational experience HSSEAS and UCLA have to offer.

I cordially invite you and your parents to attend an Engineering Open House on Sunday, April 11, 2010. The General Meeting, for students of all HSSEAS majors, will start at 9:30 A.M. in Royce Hall where you will be provided with information about the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, UCLA housing, and financial aid. Upon conclusion of the General Meeting, a presentation will be given by the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department, after which you will be escorted to lunch and to a subsequent informal meeting with students, faculty, and alumni. Our Open House agenda is designed to provide a good deal of information about the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, its academic departments and programs.

Please visit our website 2010 Freshman Open House — UCLA Engineering Office of Academic and Student Affairs for further information about the agenda, travel information, and the School. We ask that you let us know whether you plan to attend the Open House by using your Reservation ID, 0900168, and the “RSVP” link at the website no later than Friday, March 26, 2010. At the website you will also find a map of UCLA and parking instructions for Open House. We suggest you arrive about 45 minutes early to provide time to secure parking and enjoy the short walk to Royce Hall. Questions may be directed to Leah Eberhardt, counselor in the Office of Academic and Student Affairs, at (310) 825-2889 or by email to openhouse2010@ea.ucla.edu.

Having reviewed your application, I want to congratulate you on your fine work in high school. I look forward to seeing you in person on April 11.

Warm Regards,

Richard Wesel
Professor of Electrical Engineering
Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs

is that right? am i in?

What are your stats? I haven’t heard of that letter before but that does sound like one if I ever read one lol Don’t want to give you false info tho

maybe? what are your SATs and GPA? they could just be complimenting you out of politeness. also, it could be possible the letter is automated and sent to students with more than this much SAT or that GPA.

now that i think about it, its more likely the letter is automated or otherwise it would be unfair for talented applicants whose applications have yet to be reviewed.

well it does say “Having reviewed your application, I want to congratulate you on your fine work in high school. I look forward to seeing you in person on April 11.”

SAT: 2150 single setting, ****ty score
GPA: something like 4.12 maybe 4.16
Essays/EC/Passions: Fairly strong and unique.

lol 2150 isn’t even a bad score? Even for UCLA I’m pretty sure that’s good. If you take a look at the 2009 Freshman profile of UCLA, the scores added up for the average SAT I of those ADMITTED is 2001, and you’re over that average. You’re a bit below the average GPA for those admitted but I’m sure you have a strong chance, personally.

You’ve likely seen that before but it’s for anyone who hasn’t and is interested in reading about the freshman of last year.

i got that e-mail too, a couple hours ago. none of my friends who applied to UCLA with engineering majors got it though. it’s probably automated but this sentence is my favorite:

“However, it is still too soon for admission decisions to be announced.”

to me, it has the tone of “your most likely in, but we can’t tell you”

but i really have no idea.

well this is hopeful: [It’s Official: UCLA Bruin](<a href=“Private Site”>Private Site)

found that in a google search. this was last year, too.

also, why would they invite us to an open house for april 11th and force us to rsvp by march 26th, when you could get a rejection letter the next day and be forced to cancel. seems illogical for them to have to deal with a bunch of rsvp’ing and then canceling for students that got rejected.

IIRC virtually everyone I knew who received that letter was eventually accepted into engineering.

i also got that too for bioengineering, i wonder if i got in? isnt bioengineering supposed to be really competitive? I only got a 2080, so im kinda skeptical

is there only a letter for engineering?

well it’s from

“Richard Wesel
Professor of Electrical Engineering
Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs” and it’s really an invitation to the open house for engineering, so yes. at least this specific letter.

You guys are in, no doubt. Everyone that received the letter (me included) was accepted last year. Congratulations!

does ucla give out these type of letters to any sscience majors?

jeez people, you can’t hold out for another 2 weeks?

ballin, we fly high

This is really good news!

relax son. we didnt get in berkeley or anything

Haha, despite what the engineering rankings say, I think UCLA is comparable to Berkeley… Berkeley doesn’t have my major (Aerospace) anyways.

I believe so.

I also got it! :)

So…how is UCLA Enginnering compared to U of Michigan’s Engineering?
