UCLA or NYU to transfer from?

Hi, I'm new to the board and I was just wondering if anybody could help me out.

I was just accepted into the UCLA co 2012 as well as NYU's co 2012. I got in as a poli sci major. The thing is, I was rejected from 2 of the schools I really had my heart set on, Georgetown and Stanford. I know Stanford is a major reach so I was expecting it but I really wanted to go to Georgetown instead of LA or NYU.

My question is, which school is better for me to go to (NYU or UCLA) in order to transfer to Georgetown or Stanford? I would try to transfer after 1 year and I'm not sure if going to one or the other would make a huge difference. I'm not sure what other things I should post but any help is appreciated :) Thanks!

ucla most def

I second UCLA. Unless you're studying business (not economics), UCLA is stronger all around.

I doubt it would matter which of the two schools you try to transfer from, your performance during your first year will have a much bigger impact. I would suggest that you visit both schools and decide which school fits you the best. Who knows you might fall in love with whichever school you decide to go to and not even apply to Gtown or Stanford next year. Just keep an open mind when you get to whichever school you decide to go to, and give it a chance.

yeah, i dont think it matters from which school you transfer from. Just get a good gpa.

What's the financial breakdown between the two? Or is that not a factor?

I think it's a trifle early to think about transferring. Give your new school a chance and see where you are emotionally/intellectually in a year. UCLA/NYU are negligibly different and their respective academic rigor is comparable. Neither choice will impact your transfer admission chances significantly.

Well, NYU is offering me around 30 k but I'd still have to take out about 20 k in loans in order to pay the rest off so I'd be in 80 k debt after 4 years. UCLA is offering me a bunch of scholarships so I'd basically be going there for free. The thing is, I've been living in so cal my entire life and have been to UCLA many times to visit. It's not really the atmosphere that I've been looking foward to which is why I'm just thinking about this is all.

Of course I'll give both a chance but I was just wondering since I really fell in love with Georgetown.

pick a school you at least have a chance to be happy at because if you're not happy your chances of doing well are probably not as high. transferring is not a fun process, so you might as well enjoy the rest of your first year in conjunction to transferring so that you don't go too crazy

Ha googleyed - Stanford. I get it... I do don't I? lol

I heard of grade deflation at UCLA, which might hinder your chances at transfering since GPA is a biggie. But this is jus what I heard, not first hand experience.

i go to UCLA and I wouldn't call it grade deflation so much as just straight GPA, which compared to other schools may seem like deflation. inflation is just so rampant these days...

i go to ucla, but isnt it more difficult to earn grades than nyu?
I also agree with you googleeyed,
I came from Boston, and UCLA is not the atmosphere that I expected....
After visit, I came here to transfer
