Is it true that UCLA is overrated in general? I mean, teachers and friends have told me that if you have the chance, go to another UC, like UCSB or UC Davis. Why would people say this? I am planning to apply to a UC next fall.

Your friends are tripping

Your friends are trying to convince you not to apply so they have a better chance of getting in. You can no longer trust them, watch your back.

USC is the epitome of overrated

haha how funny.

I wish someone had told me this sooner. I didn’t even apply to UCSB or Davis :(

yes, yes it is… Go to UCSB and have unprotected sex. Perhaps participate in a couple of orgies.

It depends on how you view UCLA. I see it as a good school with cool people in a nice area with nice weather. In my case, it does pretty much what I expect.

Some people view UCLA as the greatest thing since sporks and they’ll let all their hopes and dreams hinge on their future with the school. If they’re accepted they run around their house screaming and crying tears of joy, finally believing their life now has some semblance of significance. If they’re rejected, they cry uncontrollably for days, fearing they’ll never be able to get their lives back on track, eventually falling into a deep depression (which is partially caused by the Triton Eye because they end up going to UCSD).

In the latter case, yes, you could say that UCLA is overrated.

The people who are telling you this were probably rejected, then ended up going to another school and are now trying to convince you (and themselves) that their school is just as good. Or, they secretly WANT to go to UCLA, but know they couldn’t get in. Those people are insecure. Go wherever you think you’ll be happy. You can earn a good education pretty much anywhere.

Hahaha, hearing overrated reminds me of my friend who’s going to SB. She tells me I’ll become just one of thousands enrolled and will get lost in the sea of Asians along with overly competitive no-life students who kill the curve, while also being forced to find guys off campus as the cute ones are all not at UCLA… Then I tell I’ll have fun calling her when constantly hungover and sleep deprived from her roommate always getting “busy” with a guy… ^_^; It can go both ways.

Anything being overrated is just a matter of opinion.

you’re kidding right?

especially asking here.

ucsb or uc davis over ucla? i’ve never even heard of those schools before i came to LA.

they dont want you to get in and take their spots. UCLA = overrated? OVER MY DEAD BODY! they’re tripppppppppping.

UCLA <3

why don’t you ask those people telling you that yourself…

My only real response is this:

Lol

blah! UCLA’s underrated!!

Do you really need two threads for two questions? Posted within a half hour of each other? god you’re just like CalBear

I chose UCSB over UCLA (and Cal)…it’s not that unbelievable.

i smell a trollll~

Well there are always those weird people who like to be contrarians for no other reason than to be different.

UCLA is very over-rated.
It’s a universal fact that UCLA has been on its downhill. UCLA’s Golden Age is long gone. That was back in the 60’s and the 70’s when Coach Wooden was reigning the NCAA Basketball Tourny. That’s the only reason why UCLA became so famous. Now, USC is catching up, Privates are making its way up, and UCLA is slowly being lost in sea of second-choice schools.

But to say UCSB and UCD rate higher than UCLA is an overstatement. All UCs in general are on its way down, not just UCLA. The quality of UC is in its major downfall (including Berkeley), CSU’s are becoming more like a community college, and privates are catching up.

Go to USC. It’s worth the money. It has much better alumni connection, much better networking, and much better taking care of Trojan family. Not only you will benefit from it, but also your future sons/daughters will thank you for choosing USC. USC’s professional programs are rapidly rising. UCLA is the past. USC is the future. Whether you choose the past or the future, it’s your choice.
