UCLA Regents Scholarship Confusion

The prospective scholarship page states "Students determined by Undergraduate Admission to be the strongest applicants within the context of UCLA’s holistic review process are reviewed for this award by the Faculty Committee on Honors, Awards and Prizes. Students selected for this award will be notified of it when they receive their admission decision and provisional financial aid award letter. " This led me to assume that, like UCSB and UCB, no additional application is necessary to apply for the Regents Scholarship for UCLA. However, also on the same prospective students page, it is stated the deadline for the scholarship is 3/02/2019.

Does this mean that (since admissions and scholarship decisions are simultaneous) the deadline for being notified of admission and scholarship is 3/02/2019 if one is to be awarded the scholarship?

Or does it mean that there is, contrary to the wording, another form that must be submitted by 3/02/2019?

All applicants are considered for the Regents Scholarship. No separate application is necessary.

The monetary amount of the scholarship is dependent on financial need, so you need to have applied for financial aid before the March 2nd priority deadline. Pell, CalGrant, and outside scholarships would be applied to need first. Then Regents and other institutional aid would cover any remaining need. The amount of the award may vary each year if your family financial circumstances change.

If you don’t have financial need, or you don’t meet the priority deadline for applying for financial aid, the Regents Scholarship award is $2000 per year.

Thank you! Very clear response.

I hope I get it…

Update:

There is in fact a separate essay one must submit for regents; it is located on the prospective scholarships page for UCLA (same page one goes to for alumni scholarship).

UCB sent out regents invites on 2/8 this year. While it doesnt requires additional essay, but an interview is required for candidates.
UCB always requires interviews, my son got it 2017.
I think it’s very confusing this year for UCLA regents. I am not even sure if anyone can apply or you need to be invited? I know my son was invited to apply, with an additional essay, in 2017.
