UCLA rejected Regent Scholarship applicants?

Does anyone know what is going on with the Regents? From the UCLA blog I am seeing that people invited to apply for the Regents at UCLA were rejected from UCLA tonight.

yea i am one of them- -

Yes I am one of them as well.
I will give UCLA a call if I get rejected by Cal as well, but really, it was quite surprising to see the rejection.

shouldnt occur. at the ucb interview they say specifically you’ve been admitted, so for them not to admit you would be a great mistake

make sure u call. Don’t even wait for UCB decisions, just call ASAP

Really?! That’s crazy.

It is clearly stated that regents doesn’t guarantee admission…
I don’t see the point of calling .

I think it’s pretty simple. Cal guarantees admission if you’re invited for Regents interview, and UCLA does not.

It’s a tough situation and I’m sorry about it. Hope it all works out for you!

^

vc08 is right. i mean if you think about it, LA doesn’t even talk to you in person. its just a really simple online app. “guaranteed in” is just Cal’s way of making you excited for their school.

that said… i think the whole situation is ridiculous. UCLA definitely shouldn’t do that to people.

vestige:

were you ELC? Any idea on your class rank?

How can you be the top 2% and not the top 22% unless the rankings for regents and general admissions are not the same.
If they use the same rankings, the only thing I can think of is mistaken invites by UCLA or phishing pranks.

PS: did you apply to Engineering?

It appears that one of the people on the UCLA board reporting this later noticed that they were talking about Alumni Scholarships and not Regents - a different kettle of fish. Not sure about the three others - wonder what Admissions said when they called.

good point, rider. Alumni scholarship e-mails go out to every applicant.

I heard the UCs might be dumping 10,000 or more eligible students, this year. I also heard that UCB was trying not to do that.
