UCLA closed it’s archaeology field school so I dont see any “real” advantage in going to UCLA for antrho anyway…unless you just like the name.

@lbc123 not every anthro major wants to do archaeology. and not all schools offer field schools. ucla is still a great school for anthropology.

I’m still incredibly curious as to whether other rejected transfer students can fill out the housing application / see their major on myucla.

It might also be an IT issue, you never know. I have had friends last year get initially denied, they called and the admissions person actually looked into it and realized (not on the phone of course) that it wasn’t right. Admissions decides who gets in, but they don’t put it in the computer, the IT people do that.

Let us know how it goes! If you’re close I would actually come over, lol.

Definitely call and see what’s up. I got in as anthro. under the EXACT same conditions as you (3.4, TAP, missing one class, A’s in other prereqs, etc.) so something might up

Okay, I transferred to UCLA 08Fall… I had 3.67 and I knew low 3.0’s who got accepted. anthro isnt impacted so it’s not that hard. I think UCLA anthro has raised there standards i guess…

Thanks for all of the support guys. I know it is an extremely rare chance my rejection was on accident, but you guys are helping me get through tonight haha.

Yea, like i said before, i had a friend get admitted with a 3.1 for Anthro last year who was not TAP certified, and it seems there are a plethora of low gpa anthro majors who got in.

Thanks again for all the criticism and help (both good and bad)

@Rhee

How many of your friends were initially denied? was it a suspicious denial or was it semi-understandable?

Two were initially denied. One called and their decision was reversed, one had to appeal and they let her in.

It was a misunderstanding on UCLA’s part.

You are a good luck charm! can you come touch my hand? haha

I really hope it is a mistake on their part. If they don’t give you the reason(s) why they denied you, appeal!

How am i supposed to appeal if i dont know the reasons for rejection! haha

I still have yet to find out if it is normal for me to be able to file my housing application on URSA and was able to see my major on MyUCLA yesterday

Please, just one person check if you can fill out the housing application (if you were rejected).

just call the general admissions office and find out the exact reason for your rejection. i did this around 1:30 today and was able to speak to someone within 5 minutes. i really doubt its because youre missing anthro 33…according to assist that class isn’t articulated anywhere. so yeah, just call and find out…but you may just have to accept that it was because your GPA wasn’t high enough or your application as a whole wasn’t as competitive as other applicants…competition gets tougher every year. good luck either way.

oh and i checked the housing application, it still says “unsure of your enrollment status.” but just keep in mind that ursa, housing and myucla stil aren’t definite indicators of acceptance. theres a strong correlation but still, theyre not guaranteed

Yeah Cherry, im not expecting anything. I just have a very strong sense of regret so i know if i didnt give it my all, it would haunt me

definitely, i understand. definitely do what you can to put your heart at rest. hopefully you’ll be able to get a hold of someone tomorrow that’ll be able to tell you useful information to make a strong appeal.

I’ll definitely keep everyone posted. Wish me luck!

Hey guys,
So I know the reason why UCLAhopeee was denied from Anthropology with TAP to UCLA. The reason is because she/he did not choose an alternate major. In my whole life, I have never heard of someone who has finished all pre reqs, is TAP certified and has a 3.2+ gpa be denied. I got into UCLA with a 3.1 gpa tap, certified, last year and cant believe this. She/he must not have choosen an alt. major, because they will usaully accept you into your alternate major if its not impacted.

^
The thing is, Anthropology isn’t impacted so I felt like the OP was pretty confident about getting into it because of this reason. Your explanation would work if Anthropology was impacted, but it’s not. It simply might be the reason that the GPA for incoming Anthropology majors was higher than last year.

Nice username.
