Ok hey.. A friend of myne has been so set on UCLA with the right reqs, etc, etc... Got REJECTED (DOH!)

I got into UCLA as a transfer in '06 as a Philosophy major with a 3.4 with honors, etc.

BUT HEY what was my dream school?:

UCSB!!!

now why?

I'm not a nerd!!!! I don't study at all.. and I actually hate class.. Essentially I just wanted to graduate college... Now that I am here at UCLA, I love the people I've met.. but I still am like "what if I went to UCSB.." The reason why is that I myself wanted to go to film school (it was a late decision for me)

So I said hey, I'll go to UCLA and try hard to get good grades and transfer into the film program. Done and Done..

I walked into my first Philosophy class, and the professor then tells us openly "You will not get an A in this class," I later found out that the philosophy program at ucla is cuthroat and rigorous. A B- is like a godsend for us. So there went my grades. Straight A's in CC to B-'s, C+s, D's and its still like that for me. There went my hopes for Film School. I've had a past experience with Design, awards and etc. So I thought maybe DESMA ( the design program ) but with my grades.. I was stuck.

Later, I was like you know what I've read countless books and found out "Hey man, I don't need film school! duh." Get off my butt and start shooting, start hanging out in the right circles, I'm actually an LA native, so my connections as of film are actually ones that are from back home.

so... my UCSB theory is hey, I would've had fun, double majored in Film Studies (Without the rigorous GPA-Centered program) btw, How can you Grade a film (horrible..) with Philosophy (at the not so rigorous program where I'm focused on learning as opposed to grades)

So for those of you who have gotten into "lesser" schools, I'd say don't trip. UCLA is HARD.. and when people tell me "dude, the name," I mean c'mon there are so many students who do nothing with their degrees from any school, UCLA isn't harvard or stanford. And many alumni live in the LA-area and they don't tend to care if you are a UCLA grad or not, when it comes down to hiring. I have heard the "We only hire USC and UCLA" but honestly.. Follow your dreams.. Just don't end up at a place because its the "BEST" choice due to standards. Someone might end up in a better situation if they pick another school.

UCLA has a lot of RED-Tape.. so when people ask how my experience is I say "Ehh...I wish I could do what I wanted to at my school, thats all."

Appeal, doesn't hurt, never did it. I remember going to UCSD years ago and a kid saying "All the appeals I know I got in" And I was thinking "dude.. if they are going to UCSD OF COURSE THEY GOT IN!!" hah.. But Appeals happen, They have the option right?

If your a nerd, you would've loved UCLA. If you want to follow your passion, you shouldn't care about the specific school or school at all.. Follow your passion wherever it takes you. So sorry nerds.. (i never studied til i got to ucla hah..)

What was even funnier is a poli sci teacher in CC hated me and told me "You'll never get into UCLA." And I sat silent staring at a professor, and realized I'm not even going to respond. Maybe there was some karma involved? Hopefully I don't end up like him since I go to UCLA, plus he got in way back when, when UCLA wasn't even a tough school to get into.. (loser)

so.. All in all.. Don't TRIP!

plus.. Anytime I walk into some sort of social function its all like "what frat are you in?" while as in sb its like "your hot" I know that for most of you thats not so special, but if your looking to meet genuine people without a weird sense of hierarchy, then looking elsewhere may not be a bad idea, especially if you want to make connections without putting to so much time into social groups and orgz.

ANybody know the number to call in order to find out rejection information? Would it just be admissions ?

WOT, Vegan, and anyone interested:

OK, if I remember correctly, someone from these forums last year followed the format from this link (for their appeal) and got in -- I've just grazed over it, but it seems to have some good solid info that will at least help you get started.

Pilipino Academic Student Services ~ UC Berkeley

I will likely be searching out more info on the appeal process this week, so I will post any other links I come across that seem helpful. It'd be great if anyone else did the same :)

Rejectioners unite lol

please tell me they aren't going to send me a rejection in the mail as well. i'm over it already and ready to submit my SIR to ucsb! hoorah for ucsb comm majors!

I can't believe this... I am simultaneously confused, sad, and disheartened. BUT most of all... ****ed.

GPA: 4.0
Major: Business Economics (Pre)
Essay: 8.5-9.5/10
- TAP Certified
- IGETC Certified (AA Degree)
- AGS
- Regents

...

Rejected.

Missing one pre-req due to a counselor's (mis)guidance. I'm not even planning to appeal because UCLA has effectively destroyed any of their remaining allure in my eyes.

Tonight I have realized how insanely bureaucratic this entire process is. If you have been rejected, just understand it has nothing to do with you or how much effort you have demonstrated. Yet, I am sure the automatic (sub)standardized rejection-letter has affirmed this to you already. I am so done with UCLA even for graduate school. Good riddance and good night.

thanks for the insight staiolz

4this1post:

unbelievable....but which UC you want to get into?

rejected. =/

gpa: 3.75
major : poli sci
igetc: last class this spring (math)

i was saddened too, because even for an impacted major i liked my stats.
and surprised, even the ucla rep for my school thought i would get in.

oh well just hope i get into 'sc.

don't have much hope for berkeley. but then, again never really did even before ucla's rejection.

i don't think im going to try to appeal.

any ucla questions, you guys can AIM or pm me.

4this1post, are you transferring from a cc?
we have about the same stats, you from a cc though (i think) and me from UCSD, i think it could be the major though, but yeah i was pretty surprised/ *ed off, but i'm even more *ed off for you since you're coming from a cc with TAP, F UCLA !

4this1post
you are right

4this1post-
here, here!

im just finished with ucla. its not even worth it. did anyone do the math..... went from 40% admit rate to 21%

GO Trojans~~~Go Bears!!!
but I still keep my hopes up....

I'm pretty sure all of the high stats people who got rejected from UCLA with get accepted at UCB (if they applied of course). It just seems way to strange. I look at the rejected thread and the overall stats seem to be higher than those of the accepted thread. lol

DJS3CA- Maybe they're trying to compete with USC's 21% freshman admission rate? :o
