Ucla Rejects Unite :(

I guess I'll join the ranks of my fellow (confused and disillusioned) rejects to frickin' UCLA.

I know a friend who got in with horrible stats:

COMBINED SAT: 800
SAT II: 580, 600, 600
GPA: 3.0 UC gpa
Mexican immigrant all the way from down south

Oh wait, that wasn't my friend, that was me! whoooot whooot bruin pride!

calidan you were rejected?

Yeah, I was. :( And I can't really figure out why, especially after seeing some other people on here who were accepted.

I'm rarely bitter, but this situation really warrants that kind of attitude.

poopyster: are u serious?

calidan, don't compare yourself to others, they got in on their own merits. I just don't like people going why did you get in, my stats were higher than yours?

btw I am very sorry. :(

I am dead serious awakenedream. UCLA became a c****y school because they accept people like me. I didn't expect to be accepted but it must have been my essay about how difficult it was to cross the northern border that got me in. muchos gracias ucla

Well I'm mainly referring to one of my friends, who I am still friends with (of course lol), but they got in, even though I am the better student (I guess you'll have to take my word in this one). We had a conversation about it, and he is confused about the whole admissions process at UCLA as well. But I'm really happy for him anyway because he's one of the nicest people in the world.

Thanks. :o

Bitter rant over. Now I'm okay.

And I'm done being bitter. I don't like it, and it doesn't help anything.

I must say that poopyster's story (true or not) shouldn't come as a shock to anyone. When I came to UCLA I met several people on my hall alone who had less than stellar stats. A girl I know had a 1030 SAT, a 1 on her AP calc exam, and still had a full ride here from scholarships. She's Mexican. But the thing is, she has no work ethic whatsoever, is doing really bad in her classes, and goes out and parties and drinks all the time.

So I mean, it's a bit pointless, she's always saying that she wants to drop out of college and go back home. All she seems to be concerned about is meeting lots of guys and "playing" them.

But on the other side of the coin, another guy on my hall had a combined SAT that was 900 something, and an F and several Cs and Ds on his transcript. But he works hard, is one of my best friends here now, and I'm rooming with him next year. So well, I guess some people can change, and some people can't.

But how can they truly justify admitting someone like that?

I wouldn't make assumptions on people based on how they act or how much they seem to know in class. A lot of people have very diverse interests outside of school, and a lot are deeper than they appear to be. You'd have to look at their application as a whole and see how the different aspects of it compliment each other. You've been listing scores and grades, but we all know that UCLA looks a lot at EC's, and probably essays as a scale tipper.

Dude brandnew, i have a friend who got like at least 2 Ds his junior year and an F his sophomore year and hes coming with me to ucla! I am so stoked man, because all we did after school was hit it up at the arcade.

calidan- You got into Georgetown! It's a much better school than UCLA, don't worry! Will you be appealing?

aim78: True. The friend I'm rooming with next year is a perfect example of this.

The girl, however, is not. I've lived as her neighbor for several months now and know her VERY well, and she is not deep, nor is she smart, nor does she have many interests outside of school (or in school). Last night she sitting around in her room and going "I'M SO *****ING BORED" and what she decides to do is go to frat row and try to get as wasted as possible. Her mission was to "a. get wasted b. have trouble walking back to the dorms" and she said "if i don't get wasted, I'm going to go get high."

Honestly, though I consider her my friend, I don't think she belongs here at UCLA.

Edit: Oh and by the way, I've actually seen the above friend's UC App. I'm obviously respectful toward my friends but inside I went "what the hell? how did you end up here?"

College- no, I don't think I'll appeal. It just would have been nice to have an equivalent alternative to Georgetown that was less costly (in case financial aid doesn't work out).

Yeah, I see what you mean calidan. How come no Fin Aid from Georgetown yet?

By the way, I guess the UCs don't waitlist anyone?

She had a full ride to UCLA and her SATs scores were 1030? What are you smoking? Was she like the class valedictorian at some underperforming school or something?

the UC's used to waitlist before?

Sorry to hear it Calidan, but Hoya Saxa! :D

i wish the UC's had ED, most people wouldn't do ED b/c they expect to go to higher privates, ivies, etc... so ED would help kids who know they really want the UC........
