I'm very suprised to be hearing that I am borderline for UCLA. My grades are very high and my SAT II are okay but my SAT I's are verrrry low =(

GPA W: around a 4.25ishh
gpa uw: around a 3.97
sat I: 1780
sat ush: 700
sat chem: 660
sat math II: 650

I'm editor-in-chief of yearbook and have many other leadership positions. I went to CIF my freshman and sophomore year for swimming but I stopped after that so that I could focus on school work (not b/c I was doing bad, but because I love school). I think what might have made me borderline was my essays. It showed the difficulties i've been through and I think my school has a very good reputation at ucla (we had over 13 students go there last year and I'm sure more were accepted). They're probably wondering what happened with my crazy low sat I score haha.

UCLA is still a work in progress with respect to their holistic admissions process, so all this speculation is pretty much a crapshoot. UCLA is still struggling with stats vs. melting pot and is (imo) in its infancy in this process.

Don't think of yourself as "borderline" if you get this email. Think of it as an opportunity. They are really looking for a way to admit you. While they are not as sophisticated in their review as Berkeley at this point, give them a learning curve thumbs up for trying!

For My talent I wrote my ability to persevere through any adversity and how I plan to use my medical knowledge to improve the lives of immigrants struggling in the US

for my second one I wrote about my challenges and how I got discriminated as an immigrant from Mexico and how I wish to change the views on immigrants and help unite both American and US cultures.

Although I'm a bit low on SAT, I'm good on GPA, and good on AP.

The thing that I have most to offer are my 500+ hours of Rural-medicine volunteering and 500+ hours of Hospital volunteer.
