UCLA Russian Flagship Program-what to expect?

I am in class 2016 and I am intrigued yet hesitant cause it seems pretty intense. Is it like a minor or what?

I will probably major in politics and chemistry, which already cover wide-ranging study, and i plan to socialize a lot. Is it doable to pack these plans together?

Not afraid of working my ass off though :?

Honestly your biggest problem will be UCLA’s 216 unit cap, flagship takes around 60 units I believe. You can add a Russian minor which is basically one extra class. With two majors I;m not sure how you’ll be able to do it, though you’re not in the engineering school so you might have a better shot at than I did. I did for the first two quarters, but with my schedule as a CS major I couldn’t fit in the courses, as they fulfill no requirements for me and I’d have way too many units. The professors are wonderful though, and Dr. Kagan might be to help you out if you let her know about your situation early.

To what extent will it help if I change chemistry to biz/econ?

I imagine that it would be easier as biz Econ probably overlaps more with politics than chemistry. I don’t any of the requirements for the College of letters and Scienes, so don’t hold me to that. I do that flagship has some sort of agreement with the College of Letter and Sciences for unit cap exceptions.

But Letters and Sciences needs to approve a second major if you want one, and I can’t imagine them letting do two majors and flagship. I would talk to a counselor in the fall and ask them because they can give you a more through answer than I can.
