<p>You have to finish all preparation for the major and all “The Major.” All lower and upper division classes.</p>
<p>ciaokarol is right. Sometimes an upper division course can be substituted for a lower division one, like Math 180 for Math 61. However, you can’t use the upper division course you substituted as an elective if you major requires it.</p>
<p>If your major requirements don’t fulfill up to 60 upper div units you have to take other upper division classes to get their. They can be any upper division class you have permission to enroll in.</p>
<p>For my major, under info on Upper Division courses, it says this</p>
<p>“The Film and Television major requires upper division work only.”
So I don’t have to take the preparation courses?

<p>The answer to that question is yes. Not all upper division courses have prerequisites, so you can take classes outside of your major or just take more classes that are in your major. My major, Philosophy, only has 13 required upper division courses. I’m going to take 2 in another field to meet the 60 units.</p>
<p>So two of the classes I need are already full… :(</p>
