You are on the right track so keep up the good work and you will have a good chance at these schools. Since you are a Sophomore, I would definitely consider taking the SAT again before your applications are due Senior year. Also think about some SAT subject tests you would like to take and focus on one or two of your EC’s. Quality not Quantity is important. Good luck.
Your Math score is well below the standard at Stanford or Brown unless you have a hook. Unfortunately the schools don’t care much about the writing score as it’s been eliminated now.
I thought so as well, but I thought colleges would look at the composite score, not focus on individual sections. Should I take the new SAT? Would an 800 Sat math 2 make up for it?
@lilinitique You should take the SAT again, especially because it is changing as of this March. Most colleges would want your score from the newer exam.
It makes no difference which SAT you take but the scores do matter and unfortunately the schools have never considered the written section to have much meaning. In fact for years many schools only considered the M+V to be relevant. I don’t want to be negative but even with a 750 M your chances at Stanford without a hook is negligible and Brown isn’t much better. Assuming your are in-state UCLA and UCB seem a good chance if you can raise your math score a bit.
