UCLA Supplemental Duolingo English Test

No its optional but highly recommended

I really think that I am a strong candidate for UCLA I ranked 2nd in my school. My predicted IB score is 41 with Biology HL, English HL, Turkish HL. Have 2 math, 2 science publications. 2 of them is published at Cornell. I am the only one that took Biology HL and got a predicted of 7 in my school. Also involved in surgery experiences, community involvement projects, live tv shows. Also my sat Chem is 710 an Sat math level 2 is 800. Have 1920 sat in the old one and have 1400 in the new one.

What i don’t understand is, if it is potential interest, why it is a language test instead of, say, any other supplementary material request? A language test means nothing other than the English proficiency, which, I can see from past posts, that most of us have pretty decent English scores to show proofs. Isn’t it redundent and a bit meaningless?

LOL act 35 studying in US high school still received this email… I think I would just disregard it since it’s not compulsory.

Hey guys. TOEFL105 SAT1540withCR760 still got this e-mail. So nothing to do with our grades or tests.
Maybe it’s only sent to international student?
But that’s 49USD and I have to take the Duolingo test at 11:59 PST? That’s 8.AM in China!

Maybe we are the worst group of people among all candidates. LOL.

Hahahahah I dont think soo because a know a lot of people that have very low gpa, low sat scores like 1200, did not took any sat subjects and their IB predicted scores are avg 34-35 and dont have strong extracurriculars. (international students). They did not receive this.

You have to take the exam no later than 20 February it says but its not compulsory.

I wonder if UCLA found 550 too low for the New SAT Reading & Writing Test
I waived my ToEFL request because I studied in a English Language school for 4 years. Didn’t want to spend the $12. Now they are telling me that I need to spend $49???
Should I just ignore the request and send them my 115 ToEFL score…
Anyone decided not taking the test?

My TOEFL score is 114 and I got it. I think this email was sent to all international students probably because they want to make money out of it or something. I don’t find this test necessary.

An international student from South Korea here. Received same email with ACT 32 and SAT 1420 already. So confused right now but i guess im gonna take it for an additional consideration.

I have a 111 toefl score and 730 reading&writing. Its weird that they are asking such a thing, isn’t it? And moreover it says the request was sent to a selected few. The whole situation is confusing…

@singmywaytostan im not giving… its 49$…

Several of my friends also got this email. Based on the info on this thread and my personal experience, the trend is that this email is sent to applicants with relatively high English TOEFL scores already. (most around 110 or more)
To conclude, it is probably a moneymaking gimmick.

I’m an international student from UAE. 109 and got the mail. But in the end are you guys giving the test or no?

probably not, what about you guys?

Still thinking but probably not

I probably will not

Definitely not, I’m sure its only purpose is to make more money…

Plus, I did the practice test and its really easy. Its not like IELTS or TOEFL. These are much more harder.
