^ If you applied to UC's in Fall of 08', then you have until the end of this Spring to complete TAP.

This is not always correct.

For example at my school Foothill, half of your honors courses need to be finished by the end of fall term when you apply:

"In order to be eligible for this program [TAP], honors students must complete a minimum of three honors courses by the end of the fall term prior to their transfer. Students must successfully complete (grade of B or better) a minimum of six honors courses with a minimum GPA of 3.3 by the end of the spring term prior to their transfer. Students interested in participating in this program must submit an application to UCLA by the annual November deadline. Honors students will receive an email message from the Honors Institute identifying the deadlines for submission of additional materials."

Sorry for budging into this thread, but I have a question regarding my UCLA TAP.

I signed it the other day, and the counselor was positive I would get an acceptance...

however,

I messed up with one of the prereqs for my major (global studies.) It was one of those things where you were supposed to take a certain number of classes for each area, and well, I took one too many for one area, and am now short one on another.

My G.P.A is a 3.71...

how likely is TAP going to pull me through?

not true. foothill's tap guidelines may come as really strict but several ppl that were tap certified and did go on to transfer to UCLA told me that you only need to complete 4 honors courses and 2 honors seminars before you transfer to get tap certified :)

actually, you can START taking your tap courses in the fall as long as you complete 4 courses and 2 seminars before you transfer (which's what i originally meant in my post). stop by the honors room and a counselor will tell you that!

Has a counselor actually told you that? I've seen two different sources say that three must be completed by the end of fall before transfer. This one actually even has it in caps and bold on the site:
"Completion of Foothill Honors Scholar requirements (Cumulative 3.3 GPA and completion
of 6 courses from Honors Scholar application form with a grade of B or better). FOR
ELIGIBILITY, THREE HONORS COURSES MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE END OF
THE FALL TERM PRECEEDING TRANSFER. "

You don't need TAP or other programs to get accepted to UCLA. It simply gives you an edge in your application, but remember, it just gives PRIORITY to these students who are in it. It's not a guaranteed acceptance to la or berkeley.

I agree with sstory. I was told that TAP needs to be completed before Spring. The reason for this is that TAP gives students a pretty good edge hence the requirements are strict. If someone is in the process of completing their TAP in Spring, there is no guarantee that they will complete the program since they might fail a class or something. So why would that person have the same edge as someone who has already completed the program?

TAP applicants need to be done with TAP before Spring semester which is why there is a TAP certification form in March.

I think someone who is in TAP may think he/she has an advantage over someone who's not in the program because they're made to believe that they will almost certainly get into the school of their choice. However I think a non-tap student has a good chance of being accepted to a good school if he/she just did well in all the classes.

well yes, fresh, that might be true. but if a student with a 4.0 and NO TAP was compared to a student with a 4.0 and with TAP, who do you think will get priority?

TAP doesnt guarantee you admission but it supposedly gives you a huge edge (something of an equivalent to a 0.2 + gpa)

yeah, a counselor has told me and another current student currently taking TAP courses (who also posts on this forum) that. a friend of mine transferred to ucla last fall after only completing two, not three, TAP courses the fall prior to her transfer. you can see her name on the list of last year's TAP certified students :)

it's better to stop in and talk to real people rather than believing everything you read. circumstances vary and as strict as TAP may be, there are exceptions... or secrets they don't wanna give away to the general public =P

It's still not like she didn't take any. Sure you might get some sway for a class but I'm sure not for all three. Personally I've learned to believe what I read and not what people tell me, especially counselors at a cc.

It seems like Tap is slightly different at each CCC. This is what my CCC says. It seems its just saying you need to complete 6units of honors before fall.

Is it acceptable for a student to complete all of the 15 units required for the UCLA TAP (Transfer Alliance Program) certification during her/his last spring semester at CCSF?

No. At least 6 of the 15 required honors program units must be completed by the end of the fall semester the academic year before the student wants to begin at UCLA. So for example if a student wants to start at UCLA in the fall of 2010, s/he must complete at least 6 honors units of the required 15 honors units by the end of fall 2009 in order to be TAP certified. The remaining 9 units can be completed in the spring of 2010.

It should also be noted that in order to be eligible for TAP certification the minimum number of honors courses a student can take is five.

yeah, well, ya gotta take some in order to be certified which is completely from the point i was making: the minimum isn't 3 by the fall you apply. hm, honors counselors that'll be handling you transferwork aren't reliable?
