UCLA Transfer 2011

I think I’m borderline?

Major: Psychology
GPA: 3.625 (4.0 for major)
IGETC: completed after this semester
Prereqs: completed
ECs: employed, 20-30 hrs/wk
I’m also an honors student, but didn’t take enough classes to get TAP
I’m also not sure how much the essays effect admissions. My additional statements essay focused on the two Cs I’ve gotten over the last year and a half. They were due to family health issues. I explained that I was almost solely responsible for taking care of my father when he had heart surgery…

Does anyone know whether in the past they’ve sent out an email a few days before the decision came out saying “your decision will be available ___”? Or do we literally just keep checking that site and one day it’ll have our admissions letter?

^ @sammi I hope they email us…I’ve been doing that for weeks now with UCSB since they have a random roll out, lol.

At least with Berkeley they have a solid date and time frame. =D

Last year there was no email. The decision date was announced on the official UCLA facebook page.

smcguy-what are the good things about UCLA TAP?

Pinoiako916 - TAP gives students a slight edge, but I feel like the best thing about TAP is the ability to choose an alternate major. Non-TAP students aren’t considered for an alternate major even if they click the box on the application.

Example: A TAP student with a 3.8 GPA can apply to Business Econ which is super competetive…and then pick Math/Econ as an alternate major. If they don’t get in Bus Econ they get a second shot at a non-impacted major.

Philosophy and Anthropology tend to be good alternate majors for social science majors applying to impacted majors like Sociology

basically with TAP, if you complete pre-reqs for an alternate major, you basically have two tries to get into UCLA?

^Yes, and you also have a better chance in both majors than non-TAP applicants.

Didn’t apply this year, but does anyone know if the transfer process is any easier for those looking to transfer from one UC to the other, say UCLA?

^ @jayfromla UC to UC transfer is still difficult (or as difficult as its been known to be).

just wondering, when are we expected to get a response from ucla? i know it says late april but is there a date that we are expecting a response (based on previous years)? good luck to all of us!

If you access URSA you can see how far they have review your fafsa and this could be an indication of the pace of your application, for example I one of my friend’s showed me his URSA and under the FAFSA it tells you in what step it is. His has already been reviewed and the date said 04/15/11 which was this past friday but there are two other checkpoints that they still have to check. But this just lets you know that they just started checking the financial aids

My financial aid document tracking for 2011-12: [TinyGrab - Simple. Screenshot. Sharing.](http://grab.by/9Ujn)

My Financial aid Summary/Awards: [TinyGrab - Simple. Screenshot. Sharing.](http://grab.by/9Ujq)

Haven’t filed taxes yet, but I filed my FAFSA (therefore, I still need to correct them). I see nothing on my URSA, 3.8 TAP applicant (bizecon and philosophy)

swagger-what does your say? try using tinygrab to get a snapshot of what you got right now in your ursa.

i was able to enroll in a UCLA summer session, but decisions haven’t been made yet, what does this mean???

Everyone can. I preemptively registered for several summer classes to get ahead in hopes that I’ll get in and already have 16 units from the summer.

@ Pinioako,

Have you already been accepted to UCLA? I thought you were only able to see Fin.Aid awards after you’ve been admitted…or should it already be viewable regardless of status.

p4pfighter- not yet but i made an ursa account and saw that

is ucla your top choice?
