UCLA Transfer Appeals 2019

@pbbunny97 Sorry, didn’t mean to leave you hanging! My major was Psychology and my GPA was at a 3.75. Hope you get in!

That’s a good GPA! I’m so sorry :/, do you know what time you checked?

@pbbunny97 I checked my portal around 10 am

@nani9768 Sorry. Just saw your comment. I was in SITE LITE the first year and SITE PLUS 2nd year. I applied as a psych major to UCLA and I applied to several schools such as UCI, UCD, and UCSD. For CSUs it was CSUN, CSULB, Cal Poly Pomona and and San Diego State. I was gonna go to CSUN but I’m just going to UC Sand Diego since I got off the waitlist there

Anyone else here still waiting!?

Hey y’all, I checked this morning at 9:30. My appeal got rejected  I’m not surprised, although UCLA took so frickin long with these appeals. Good luck to all of y’all still waiting, especially @pbbunny97

@HarleyTheQuinn I’m so sorry you didn’t get in boo ? You are such a passionate and determined person, UCLA doesn’t deserve you. Good luck at UCSD and you’ll do amazing there! Same goes to all of y’all out there. If you don’t get in/didn’t get in, perhaps it wasn’t meant to be. Maybe fate has a better opportunity for you at another university. There’s also always graduate school. Until then, I’ll be going to UC Berkeley  Peace :v:

@VeeJoePerra oh no! i’m so sorry! what was your major? it’s terrible how they had all of us waiting for so long just to get rejected. Mine is still under review its so frustrating, and I am committed to Berkeley as well. Hopefully I hear a response soon, but congrats on Berkeley! do you live out there?

I had an… illuminating conversation with the Admissions Unit Manager the other day, who personally called me to discuss my situation after I sent in an email asking what my application was missing, because after FOUR denials I’m getting a little tired of this.

He claimed the reason I was denied was because finishing English 1 in winter 2018 instead of fall 2018 made me “less competitive.” I explained in my appeal letter that it would have been literally impossible to take those courses earlier; I had to drop out of college at 19 due to my disability and it took 10 years to get the diagnosis that would allow me to go back to school; this was my first year back, and those were the first available courses.

This person had clearly not read my application; when I asked why I was denied as a freshman (I applied in 2017 as a freshman–I had all transfer requirements fulfilled except the two required English courses but I had never technically enrolled anywhere as a college student before–and then in 2018 as a transfer after I’d finished the last remaining requirement- the English classes), he chuckled and said they don’t keep records “that far back” - as if I was asking why I was denied 10 years ago fresh out of high school. I informed him I applied as a freshman THE YEAR PRIOR TO THIS ONE. He sounded surprised to hear that but brushed it off pretty quickly and offered no explanation.

Something is clearly wrong here… not gonna stop asking until I get some reasonable answers.

@cenourinha Just my own opinion after reading a lot of shared stories, I don’t think it is a good idea to tell people how hard you have fought in your daily life since it would sound like complaints. If you really want to, pick the severe one and just mention it for a few words. You should focus on describing your goals and your character instead.

I could tell them about my strength in doing business but I decided not to. I think if you are too talented, the school may think that they cannot benefit you anymore. Then I chose to talk about my desire to learn about business academically and my goals to law school…

I actually deleted a partial of this comment that I composed few weeks/days ago. Since once again, the Director of Admission told new students that there were 2 persons reading each application. And if your application could make both the readers taking note, you got in. If only one reader took note about you in your application, you still lost the chance.

You waste your time to ask the staff about your application whereas the decision was made by at least two persons.

I agree with you entirely, and I have mostly used this forum to complain and not share actual details, so my comments here probably don’t paint the most thorough picture of the situation. However, I’m not complaining that the process is unfair; rather, I suspect it has been conducted illegally in that ADA violations have occurred. I have been unable to obtain a nondiscriminatory reason for any of the four denials I have received; to the contrary, I have been told the most recent two denials are directly related to my disability. I am no longer pursuing my personal application and instead am focusing on the structural issues within UC admissions that my case highlights.

@pbbunny97 Thank you! It was psychology. Have you heard back yet?
