UCLA Transfer Chance

Hi everyone. I’m a community college student and I’ve applied to UCLA for Fall 2016. I have a 3.6 GPA, a part of an Honors Society, and have many extra curriculars. I submitted my application on the deadline, Nov. 30. I know I should be getting an answer in April, however, is it a bad sign that I haven’t heard anything. I also heard that if you don’t get accepted into your first choice major they won’t consider you for your second choice.
What are my chances?
Thanks everyone!!

@Amespi Hi there! I wound up at USC, but I was accepted to UCLA last year as well. As part of your Honors, did you also happen to qualify for TAP? From my understanding, that is the only way to be considered for your alternate major if you don’t get in for your first choice. As far as not hearing anything from UCLA, I don’t think they like to talk to you unless there’s a problem. For instance, I mistakenly put I was taking a course at one college instead of the other (I attended a few different CC’s). Anyway, the college that I put by mistake didn’t even offer the course for that semester and that’s how UCLA found out :stuck_out_tongue: It seems like they really try to get their homework done. This was the only time I ever heard from UCLA directly. Just because you’re not getting personal direct emails with UCLA doesn’t mean anything bad at all  They get so many applications they probably only do have time to talk with the ones that have issues with their applications.

You should also check out the specific UC Transfer page if you haven’t already; tons of people know more about UCLA than I do on there.

Hi there @zettasyntax ! Thanks for the reply, it was very helpful.

What’s your major? Will all of your major prerequisites and general education requirements (satisfiable by either UCLA’s requirements or IGETC) be completed by the end of the Spring?

Expect a decision April 22nd (UCLA regularly releases their transfer decisions a week before Berkeley does, and Berkeley’s date is April 29th this year).

@goldencub Hi! I’m planning on majoring in Design and Media Arts. I will have an associates degree in Graphic Design this upcoming June and I’ve pretty much done all of my prerequisites and IGETC as well.

Thanks!

It’s difficult to say. Your GPA is within the range of admitted students, which is good - so you are competitive, but it’s sort of a crap shoot. How are your personal statements?
