Does anyone know how much past school work weighs in on the admissions decision? I went to a CC over 5 years ago and dropped out, so my transcript from that school has a lot of W’s and F’s due to not attending. I am 29 now and take my education very seriously ( I’ve quit working to go to school full time) and started school again last year. All of my requirements will be done this fall, as well as IGETC, and I’m also taking at stats class at UCLA. I currently have a 4.0 and have just finished my 2nd internship at a creative ad agency, but I’m afraid that my younger, immature self and the bad performance from my past is going to bite me in the butt. Does anyone have information about how they look at students like me? Besides applying to UCLA I will also be applying to USC as a Communications major. Appreciate any feedback!!
Are you retaking the classes you received an F and W in? It’s not likely they’ll accept students with transcripts with F’s on them, and recommend that you retake those courses. W’s are okay, but I would retake them anyway if you can. If you retake the courses, your new grade will override the F’s and W’s and they won’t look at the old grades.
They are courses that don’t transfer to UC schools because they are fashion classes (I had planned on going to a fashion institute). I probably should have mentioned that in my first post…so as far as retaking them it would be a mute point, and I am not a fashion major anymore. From what I’ve heard if the classes don’t transfer then it doesn’t affect your UC GPA…if that’s the case then in their eyes I have a 4.0 but I don’t know. I still have to list every class taken (even if it doesn’t transfer) on my application so that is what I was worried about. Thanks for your feedback.
@mike2011, If they don’t transfer it will not affect your GPA and the UC won’t care. Simply state in the additional comments in the application that you weren’t ready, immature, whatever. You stand an excellent shot because you showed determination and grit.
But be sure to list them.
I think they have seen this scenario before. Consult your transfer advisor.
Ps it is ‘moot point’
